I am going to make some enquiries because it seems odd that I notice it so much but Jeffro doesn’t????. First crack or slightly raised is when I notice it the most??
Anyone one else have the same issue?
September 2, 2013 at 7:35 am #249115Mine distorts.
I think I dont like my XD4.
The visor not only distorts but it has a poor ratchet system, and wont stay up.
I contact the importer and they sent me a new ratchet -gratis. They said arai gives them out because it is such a poor design.
The new ratchet still dont stay up. i use a bull dyke paper clip and a slot cut into my peak.
The helmet is comfortable and it does vent real well..Thats my 2 bob

Whoooooow there ACE……or however you spell whooow.
The above post was tongue in cheek and supposed to have my destroyed XD4 photo. The photo wouldn’t load so I gave up and asked a mod to remove the post.
I’ve attached another photo above. They are a good helmet. Saved my melon.

Thanks Pete, got it. Don’t know what I was doing last night.
So what I meant to say ACE was my XD4 has distortion in the visor and everywhere else. It was a pretty heavy helmet contact and my head come out of it without any damage. Some may argue that point
I had the XD3 before this one and wrote that off with the crash last October. Both helmets have a comfortable fit and can’t fault them for user friendly on the trails. The XD3 had a bit of a whistle but I use ear plugs and ride faster so it wasn’t as noticeable.
The XD4 has a different shaped peak than the XD3 and there is a slight whistle at certain speeds if you listen for it but big improvement.
ACE try on a Shoei and compare the visor distortion. Remember you’re not looking through goggles or a road helmet where the visor bend is less. I find distortion on all ADV helmets, some to a lesser degree.
Cheers

When the visor is on the first crack or slightly raised you are starting to look through the most curved part of the visor and the distortion will be worse. If I can I just wear safety glasses and the visor open if its not cold
September 3, 2013 at 1:55 am #249219Thanks Wayne, i will keep that in mind.
September 3, 2013 at 3:15 am #249230When I tried mine I had the visor either fully closed or open all the way so I guess we are not comparing apples with apples.
I also noticed that it doesn’t want to stay up all the way when riding. The fully open position is still a bit low for my liking and when it creeps down a bit more it can be annoying but everything else about it is great. So far I have only worn it for about an hour though.
September 12, 2013 at 4:29 am #249234Does anyone know where I could possibly try on this helmet in/ around the Gold Coast area?
I’ll be down that way in the next couple of weeks and was really looking forward to trying on an
-4 on as no one up here stocks them. Would most likely be a $1000 helmet by the time the local dealers up here got their hands on them.

Zoro, your local dealer should be able to get it in for you, let you try it on, sell it for the RRP or let you walk out of the shop without buying.

Thanks Lotsa but if the local dealer does not have any I doubt very much that they will get any in.
NT stands for Not Today, Not Tomorrow, Not Tuesday, Not Thursday…..
No competition for business up here and the shop keepers know this, if I was to go and see the local dealer and ask them to get me a helmet in to try they would charge me for the freight to get it here like they do with everything else.
Example, I paid $48 for a pilot jet and main jet for my XR650R, approx $20 of that was airbag (which takes 2-3 days) from the local Honda dealer and that is through a good mate that works there, would hate to see what it would normally cost. Like to see what the comparable items would cost down south/ east coast.
This is what its like for most things, not just motorbike stuff, we have to pay freight on nearly everything we buy up here. -
