Like everybody else has already said….What an amazing weekend of adventure riding!!. :woohoo:

TB worked his magic again with the tracks he put up for us to follow. :silly: :woohoo: :silly:

Thanks a million to TB, PTW, Mick D, King Strucky, Moose and the other leads, and sweeps.
Also a big thanks to Clean and Geeza for just loving this sport and the support you give.

Of course I can’t forget Wolfman, diligently waiting on corners and at the pub with no beer – ready at a moment’s notice to save the day for a stranded rider. Thanks for being there Wolfie and Adv moto.

I should name my post – “How to lose riders and confuse the F*#k outta everybody”.

As a lead rider I think I do a good job. As a leader of nav newbies……I did a rubbish job  . Sorry to my team for any misadventures you had.

Yep, I managed to lose ALL of my group by the end of Day 1. Kinda funny really  :pinch: .

Anyway Day 1 started out like this.

We all made a great start out of Wauchope and the pace was nice, however somewhere at about hour 2 we managed to lose Gregyver  …..yep my own boyfriend got misplaced from the group :S .

We searched and back tracked but to no avail :( . Thankfully the sweeps picked him up and returned him to me at the ferry crossing  .
At first I thought he had managed to get in front of us, but as the trail went on it became clear he wasn’t in front and we had left him behind.

Thankfully I knew Greg can well and truly take care of himself and he is all over GPS Navigation.

    P1000958.jpg

    P1000960.jpg

Then when we got to the lunch stop our slowish pace meant we needed to skip a section
TB asked Mick D to lead us on the black top around a section of the course and join back in a while later. With (what we thought :pinch: ) was everybody ready to roll we turned left out of the servo (off course) and roared off. Little did we realise Wiggster and Trailraider we still getting prepped and we left them there. Sorry Guys!!

Then Usi got caught at some lights and lost us. We had managed to stop just around the corner, but the damage was done. I had lost 3 outta the four riders. We then back tracked to look for everybody but they had returned to the purple line and were out on the part of the track we were skipping.

That left Greg and me with Mick leading us. We managed to be the first to get to Wolfie waiting on the corner. With nothing left to do but push on we hit the tracks, and what amazing tracks they were, pure adventure bike territory!! :silly:

When we got to the lookout we were greeted by TB and the King. Thankfully he let me know he had sent messages to Wiggster, Trail Raider and Usi to short cut straight to Bucca.

The afternoon was spent in amazing trails having a great time riding.

Who need tricky GPS Mounts – just zip tie it to the breakline

    Day Two

WHAT A DAY…….TB where do you find these tracks and trails??????
The day started with sunshine, a great view, and Macca’s coffee!!!

This day it was only Greg and me on the trails together. We started the day slow with coffee and hotcakes, then slowly got out on the trails…oops behind the sweeps….sorry guys. But we soon caught up and made our way into the middle of the pack.

Jacobs Ladder!!!!!! TB warned us and gave us all the information we needed but OMG was it steep. Do-able , but steep. What a great opportunity to try something that required us to pull together all the skills we have as adventure riders. On my own I probably would have chickened out of it, but because it was on route and I know TB would ask us to do something ridiculous, so over the top I rolled.
What a ride!! After a small freakout ¾ the way down, I kept going and when I got to the bottom, I realised I just gained a whole lot of confidence and new abilities!!

Feeling full of the joy of life we ripped along the trails (past a very happy group of cows) and got to lunch. At this stage we had made up for our late start and got going before the sweeps even got to the lunch stop at Freddos.
But then after fuel we took a serious wrong turn and ended up 20km off course. A 40 minute return trip meant we were again very behind. So with the day getting on and a bit of Monkey butt setting in we shortened the afternoon and cut of the final staged to get back to Wauchope at a reasonable hour.
Bikes on the trailer and the long drive home with great memories and another sense of achievement.

    Thanks again!!!

To TB, Steve Wolfman, and all of the extended Old Bull Crew, a huge thanks for a fun weekend.

The ride has been well documented, however to add a perhaps different perspective, the forests on Sunday morning were simply spectacular. Tall trees that I haven’t seen before in NSW, neat single tracks and roads, great weather plus, actually seeing the Pub with no beer and experiencing a Fredo Pie for the first time!

Not having ridden off road since the Lithgow OB event allowed some rustiness, or should I say forgetfulness to creep in on Saturday.

Adventure riding 101 – stop and look at the neat view, not whilst trying to “ok” the flagged window on the Zumo, one hand on the bars and admiring the neat forest at the same time. Result – the unseen erosion hump was hit a gear too high. Haha EVERYthing bottomed out after the too much air that entailed, including the centre stand. Note too self, Look ahead with both eyes you goose!

    Thanks TB, another great adventure.

To be honest, I’m not sure if it was the best one yet, every nav ride so far has been outstanding and it would be hard to pick a ” best one “, they have all been unique and this one was no different.
Right from the start it was on, some of the first section was familiar from riding with Mick and Strucky around the area but still as good as always.
( Note, i gave TB and Strucky some pink tape for the pre run and on the friday night they asked for some more, i gave the nearly a whole roll how could they possibly need more ? )
As we approached an intersection i began to laugh my arse off, all i could see was pink tape as far as the eye could see. Strucky really wanted to make sure we got this right. I shot off to pick up our third trusty sweep Fuchsy leaving Mick to cleaning up 984m of pink tape and 74 arrows, thanks Mick
Next was the Ghost Rd section and our first lost soul Greg, he joined us and we motored on to port, but not without me missing a few corners first then onto the ferry where we met up with some of the crew, a quick chat on the ride over then it was back to business.
Plomber Rd is great and Mick I were having a ball as we got stuck into the sand, I love riding sand and if it wasn’t for some 4×4’s we would of been side by side all the way. Then it was of to Kempsy and pick up a few riders along the way :woohoo: :woohoo:
A stop at the servo had us change some plans and thats where Mick took Amy’s crew through to Taylors Arms leaving Fucksy and myself to finish the rest of the route. I was having so much fun that I forgot that I was sweeping at times, the trails were awesome, definitely one of the more technical route’s. As we rounded a bend we came across Bucky as he had just finished his D9 impersonation, his bars were a little twisted and he was a tad sore but in good spirits, the guys said that they would just cruise out to the tar and when they asked me how far i guessed at around 10Km ( WRONG  ) the guys pushed on and Fuchsy and I sat back for 5 to let the guys get ahead, cruise ? Bucky and co said they would cruise ? bugger me, we were legging it and it didn’t seem like we were catching them  , the forrest was tight at this section so they couldn’t have missed a turn, after a while we could pick up a faint cloud of dust in the air but still i wondered if it was Bucky, JTB and Tractor, then as we round another bend we see another bike down as JTB had hit a slippery section, all was good and the guys asked again ” how far till the tar “, I consulted the gps and came up with 5 or 6 km ( WRONG  ) we cruised on at a cracking pace and i was still having a ball in these flowing trails. We caught up with the wauchope crew who had Puddles back on his bike and pointed him in the right direction and he was another one who was going to cruise out but we never caught the one legged mad man :woohoo: , he was gone. A quick chat to the wauchope guys and we were off.
We rounded up Bucky and crew again where we decided that if they got to the road and wanted to hit the tar then do so and that way the didn’t have to wait for us,” how far till the road ? ” Bucky asked ( can’t believe he asked me again after i made a meal of it the last two times ) but this time i had inside info from the Wauchope guys, ” about 10km to 15km mate ” ( WRONG  ), 30km later and we were still on dirt the Bucky crew must have been cursing me  . Soon we caught up with Puddles and had Steve on route. With everyone sorted, Fuchsy and I pushed on as we still had a long way to go, but it wasn’t far down the road i had my clutch cable snap :pinch: , luckily Nickj had one already in place ready to hook up and get moving again. With the deadline of 3:00 gone everyone was diverted to Nambucca but Fuchsy and myself still had a long way to go as we still had to sweep the rest of the route, but with no one in front it was time to have some more fun, navigation was going well and when we finally reached the lookout we both agreed that sure we were going to be late but we had to stop and take in the view, i took this opportunity to ring TB and found out that they were all having a beer :P ( don’t ring next time ).
We started our decent down the mountain but we dropped the speed down as the light was short supply, as we got closer to civilisation i lost 3rd gear all of a sudden and without warning, we pulled up and immediately i thought about needing fire wood cause i could be there of awhile, further inspection was that i was screwed  , couldn’t get the bike into neutral so that meant i couldn’t start the bike, I was then kissed on the pecker by an angel as it dropped into neutral and i could start her up, get on and see how we go, Bowerville pub is where we got to B) , and that was the end of my ride as Steve headed out to pick me up. The weekend didn’t end well and i missed out on day 2 but i still had a great time, its easy to see why these nav rides are a big hit.
Thanks to King Strucky, Crash, Amy, Mick, Fuchsy for helping and doing a top notch job, Thanks to TB, and Steve for the massive effort you guys put in, and thanks to Yamaha and Adventuremoto for there support.
as always, can’t wait for the next one. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

    Thanks Pete,
Enjoyed that report, was good to get a sweeps take and perspective on the ride.

Good to see you got to have a bit of a go on some parts of the route instead of looking after the slow , lost, and wounded the whole trip  Must be frustrating at times for the sweep riders not being able to pin it and ride like they usually would :woohoo: Litter patrol duties as well, that’s something that hadn’t even occurred to me :pinch: You all do a great job and thankyou for being so generous with your weekend ride time ;)

That’s a bugger with the bike Pete, didn’t something like that happen to TBs, hope its an easy fix for you.

    Cheers James

Don’t worry PTW I never believed you when you said how far it was to the tar :P I had zoomed out 10km on the GPS and got nothing… Bucky just liked the sound of your voice, hence the asking :) I’m also glad someone else thought Bucky was getting along! I motored off in front of the group thinking “Well if we are going to end today I might as well have some fun…” knowing you blokes were at the back, BUT every time I turned around (still can’t get used to these mirrors on a dirt bike) there was Bucky… but he didn’t believe me when I told him I was cracking along…

Thanks to you and Fuchsy for doing that job! There’s nothing like false hope to keep and injured and tired bloke going

     I was hoping you would spot that! And you dont even ride an XC anymore :P

bloody sand, with 200000 klm of 4wd touring over the last few years I was happy to never see another sand track again …. but no, TB goes and slams a sand section on an adventure bike ride. F%#*

Seriously though it was pretty fun, its always a good laugh when a large ego ends up on its arse in the sand, wookie was laughing quite hard when the squiggle lid popped up from between the wooboys :) Mainly becuase I was doing just fine but took his advice. “I reckon it would be easier just getting up on the pegs and hooking in” he said ………. “I’M OFF” I yelled 7 seconds later :) His advice sucked. Gotta love the bike to bike intercom.

I don’t think I can include sand in the next one. I am prerunning with Steve “Wolfman” Smith this week. It won’t have sand but will be a navigation real challenge I am thinking

Good :P It was fun the first time around, now we can move on.

Out of curiosity though, how many people NOT riding adventurized dirt bikes managed the sand section on the pegs? I have to know :pinch:

I can vouch for that. Poetry in motion PTW was. It took everything I had to stay with him and I was on a XR650R!

Yep Awesome stuff ;) pegs all the way for me :woohoo: Love the sand. 👿 If you remember Mr Squiggle I think I rode through…… past you guys up Plommer Rd

Your sand riding must have improved since Moose and I wet ourselves laughing at you on the beach north of Crescent that day
Pete really took to the sand when we went away, first time for him in the deep sand I remember when Jacko and I went on the big bikes it was intimidating until you got your head around it. Walkers crossing for me is the best sand riding I have ever done. 60kms of peg deep in spots wheel ruts you just slam through and rail it was great one of my favourite mornings ever on a bike :woohoo: :woohoo:
Sand requires aggressive throttle, weight back and steering with the pegs only. Getting started is the worst bit, like trying to ride down a steep dune that day with Mick and Moose. You cant get started to get up on the pegs so you gumby it until you can :P
If you watch the videos from big red which is proper sand riding it is super aggressive and go hard, the flip side is if you do crash it is big   :pinch:

I am surprised that there was so much grief there, Amy tells a funny yarn about that section and one of the BMW safaris
