Day 5 saw Rod Faggotter, who was 3rd to the event leader Ben Grabham at the start of the day, gain over 10 minutes on Ben by days end.
They started with a 29 minute difference, but Rod was quickest in 3 out of the 5 competitive stages. Rod is going great considering his facial injuries after a crash on day 2. He said the WR’s going really well and that he’s gone too far to pull out now!
There was over 470km’s of timed competitive racing over 5 sections. 160km, then 87km, then 70km and finally 153km.
The first section saw the top 7 all come in within 5 and a half minutes of each other.
The same with the second and third sections, the top 6 all came in within 1 and a half minutes of each other.
The big move of the day was in the final section when Rod was 9 minutes 13 seconds quicker than Ben.
The Smith brothers were back at it today after yesterdays disaster, finishing 4th & 5th quickest in the last section.
So, going into day 6, The competitors are heading for Geralton. Ben(CRF) is 18 minutes ahead of Rod(WR), who is now 10 minutes in front of Damian Grabham(CRF), who is 30 minutes ahead of Warren Strange(CRF), who is 1 minute ahead of Matthew Fish(KTM), who is 17 minutes ahead of Vern Strange(CRF), who is 13 minutes ahead of Andrew Coaker(CRF), then back 27 minutes to Rob Pollard(KTM), then back 13 minutes to Dean Nuttall(Berg), then 6 minutes to Thomas Jacobson(Berg).
The Smith boys are over 5 hours behind Ben – Jacob 16th and
Todd 18th
Note: The leader in the quad section, a South African fella named Vicus Vandeventer, was ahead by 90 minutes, however, he had a crash today and broke his leg. The new leader is a South Australian named John Maragozidis and he has a 3 hour lead to the new 2nd place.
