Was always going to change the chain, its the part of the equation that is stuffed. But if I can use my rear sprocket still that is great, I have replaced the front sprocket probably around 2000km ago due to bending teeth.

Whats the general rule of thumb with telling if your sprockets need replacing though

Wait till they look like this then you know you have got your money’s worth :woohoo:

Isn’t it the case that if you cahnge your chain regulary enough you should not have to change your sprockets?

Thats sort of correct but with a strong tough steel sprocket like a chain gang the chain stretching creates most wear.

I am on my 2nd chain on my chain gang sprocket with over 4000kms on the sprocket, 4 front sprockets in that time.

With cheaper sprockets and chains always replace as a set

Always run the biggest front sprocket you can and change the rear size to get your gearing the way you want it. The fronts last longer when larger, chain runs cooler and lasts longer

I might be able to just get a front and a new chain then as the rear still looks OK. I might still buy a set as I want to change the gearing a little bit by being able to fit a larger front.
