This time of year I try to meet up with a couple of mates from Coffs for a get together. A couple of years ago the decision was made to try to make an annual event on my birthday or close to it to ride from Coffs Harbour to Stuarts Point with as little road burning as possible.
Our day started early with the drive up to Coffs Harbour from Stuarts Point, I had conned my Mum and Dad to support the ride again.
We met at my mate Steves place. I have known him for many years, he is a Bike Mechanic and has taught me alot, back in the day when he had his Jet Ski shop he used to sponsor me when I raced. Just as we arrived Stu T arrived on the big KTM 690 Stu used to be a partner in Coffs Coast Traibike Tours and knows most of the trails around the area. The 690 was bought to replace his 525 and his Dommie that burnt to the ground on our trip last year I was interested to see how it was going to perform.
Meeting Point
We headed off from Steves at North Boambee a short stretch of bitumen then straight into it up along the Banana Plantations our first meeting point with the support vehicle was to be at Bellingen.
There is a hill I think the locals call “Koala” and than another after it we were keen to give it a crack as we were making great time. SB had first crack and it sounded like he made it, so I had a go rounded a corner to see him across the track I chose another line but no go the other boys were on there way up but got no further the decision was made that it was to early in the ride to damage anything so we rode around instead.
SB on his way back down
Stevo on his way back down
Stu T on his way back down
We stopped at Promise Land for a photo a nice lady wanted to hang with the Dirt Bikers haha and offered to take some photos.
Promise Land
We then headed off to meet the support vehicle at Bellingen
Bikes were fueled a bite to eat and drink and we were off. Our next meeting point with the support vehicle was to be Mt Killerkrankie.
Once agian we were making good time so Stu T thought we needed a bit more of a test and an adventure so the maps came out.
He found a track the Trail Company had used and said yeah it a good one so we headed off. Well they hadn’t used it in a while slippery clay downhills I think all bikes slid down on there sides then Lantana blocked tracks SB was leading and I was thinking has he any idea……..
We came to a creek and Stu T said now we have to ride down the creek and look for a track to our left. The three small bikes exited the creek with no problems but the 690 was finding it a bit slippery after the 3 other bikes…. we then had a short sharp clay hill to get out it was slippery SB had first go and nearly had a hearty trying, he pulled up stumps and parked it. Stevo had next go and made it a bit further Stu T and SB then dragged him up the last pinch. I had a crack got most of the way but was pointing the wrong way for the next incline, the boys helped me turn the bike then I hit the next incline and popped up. By this stage shirts were off and there was some heavy breathing happening. It was Stu T’s turn on the 690 he was struggling at the bottom so I walked down to help I dragged him about 1 meter he then gottraction and traction and he was off, the noise from the Leo Vinces near burst my ear drums then It was like I was in a Meteor shower.

We all got up eventually and headed off to meet the support vehicle for lunch. I was following SB when he came to a sudden stop. I pulled up and noticed a stick sticking out of his seat but I looked closer and noticed it had entered at his air box.
It was lucky no major damage had missed the air cleaner and everything else so we were right to continue to lunch
Lunch at Killakrankie
My parents had picked up some random dude who apparently had taken his Gf’s car for a drive and got stuck he had been walking for over 6 hours with no food or drink and needed help to get out. Well we didn’t think we were going to find a commodore up these trails.
Old mates car stuck
We then continued on to our last meeting point at Taylors Arm we beat the support vehicle I think the Old Dude got lost hahah or was driving realy slow…… so had a nice beer whilst we waited. Bikes for fueled camel backs were filled and we started our last leg across to the coast.
Taylor Arm Refuel
60km to go an about 2 hours we should be back we headed up Bulls Knob and rode a few singles crossed the Pacific Highway and headed up Mt Yarrahapini its great climb to the top.
On top of Mt Yarrahapini
Then down the other side rode some sand tracks into Stuarts Point and the big ride was over 260km what a ride.January 4, 2011 at 2:49 am #193821good read and pics Badbowie.
When a hill looks steep in a photo,it must be bloody steep as photos dont normally do them any justice.

Nice one TB I was trying to think of a one liner to write regarding Capt Furious and Jousting when I did the RR. I think Capt Furious would be happy with that strike hahaha……..
Yeah very lucky all it did was cut the radiator overflow line to atmosphere and cut the brake wires to the brake light I think he allways wanted a drilled out airbox anyway……
January 4, 2011 at 4:23 am #193830A bit of an overview of the trip. Just missing the last bit across to the coast

Not to sure Mal, there was alot of fallen trees on the track we were riding, there was nobody in front of him when it happened, He did say it hit him in the leg, I was to far back to see no doubt he may be able to shed some light on it when he gets on next.
Thanks guys for the comments it was a great day.
Murph we all suffered monkey butt too so I know exactly how your feeling mate….
January 4, 2011 at 12:23 pm #193867Scott
I would have no butt or monkey?? after a ride of that duration man
Some dudes are talking about a powder, to stop monkey butt. But aha this powder substance better work better as a liquid as thats what happens to my hidden parts about five minutes into a ride. Shall post related questions in anther section.
Sorry Admin
Lost my way again
Cheers

It was a fallen tree lying parallel to the track, it hit my shin & then speared up through the air box.

On the upside, you now have a ‘drilled’ airbox.
