I sold some tyres to a regular customer today and we got onto the subject of tyre pressures. Mike said “I run Ze rear tyre at 0.8 Bar (with a true german accent  )and in Ze front I use Ze tennis balls!!” I said your joking, Nein Nein I get Ze used tennis balls from the local courts and stuff them in the front tyre” I have seen those tyre balls before but thought it was a bit weird to run”ZE Tennis Balls  ” anyway he swears by it. Might have to give it a go one day  anyone else done some weird shit like that?

I have seen these Ollie before, but they need to be greased to slip around the tyre and I cant work out how with tennis balls you could do that. They would chaff to pieces otherwise if you know what I mean like a dry mousse tube

But then if he runs retreads anything is possible I guess :P

    Get some photos maybe

He said by the time it was time to replace the front tyre he had about 6 balls that had lost their pressure but were still working Ok. He doesnt even remove the green felt covering

I still cant understand as a Mousse generates so much heat and needs lube?? You should try it Ollie, at least you cant pinch them or glue the patches on without removing the backing   Very interesting but, and really if someone is cheap enough to run a retread tennis balls aren’t a stretch really eh?

Will watch this space be cheaper then a $200 mousse

I saw a guy on a ride once try stuffing a rear tyre with dry grass, was very funny and didnt work

This is worth a read, it gets fairly emotionally charged towards the end but is worth a look

    Tennis Balls ??????????

    Got to be kidding

What ever floats his boat, I really can`t see the point

We get sick of the things going flat after 2 set on a wed night at our local comp and we are far, far from Roger Federer style

Interesting thread tough Nipples,,,, i mean Ollie :P

Make sure you get some video of the first ride Chris. :P

Sounds interesting Ollie. Would be funny changing a trye at the A4DE and tennis balls flying out everywhere.

Does Mike use any special type of tennis ball as stated in that link from TB. I only scanned through it as they seemed to lose the plot there somewhere.

No Mal, but he did say that the used ones were better as they could be fitted into the tyre more easily. I personally believe that the tireballs that TB linked and Mousse tubes would do a better job,me I will stick to the UHD tubes and Slime to prevent flats. Mike tried the balls because he got two flats on the front in one ride.

10 months ago Ollie mentioned Tennis balls in your front tyre and I like everybody laughed at him.

Well a well known industry person today mentioned running tennis balls in the the front rather than a Mousse. I laughed but soon realised he was deadly serious

So to settle this I am thinking of trying it  any input would be welcomed
