T.B. Wolfman, Big Pete, Troy and everyone else involved,
That was a totally enjoyable ride to say the least.

Great planning with plenty of fore-thought that included an adequate number of coffee stops and, also allowing a bonus long black at GB’s farm! And TB as you saw for the first time, we aren’t always last away along with the sweeps !

The absolute highlight for us was on early Sunday morning, riding along the virtually frozen red clay trail with the Pine Plantation on the left and the fence line on the right. Bounding along on the frost covered pasture to our right were four monstrous grey kangaroos. Keeping pace with us one majestically cleared the fence with ease it then leaped into the pines and continued keeping just ahead of us, in behind the first row of trees. How it could see ahead so clearly whilst jumping and not knock itself silly on the underlying branches was a wonder. Eventually the fence had an adjacent fence line and both it the remaining ones on the right turned off. Fantastic.

But wait there’s more! A kilometre or so further on the same trail, same thing again with another bunch of greys, however these weren’t as big as the first group. Another cleared the fence with ease but it hopped into the pines not to return. I had seen things like this on film/video but never experienced it. So memorable and something that makes an adventure ride and adventure. Such a change from the stupid sheep that run ahead of you because they decide they can!

The later trails were just as good as those fantastic early clay ones early on the day and the Southern Highlands scenery is so special. The attached pic is where we caught up to TB and Troy before we headed off into the Abercrombie.
TB and Troy had been slowed with extra taping, deviations and safety warnings, which is another reason for the thanks – leaving at 5.30 in the dark to ensure that all those little extras are taken care of. Only have the one photo unfortunately as I wasn’t going to stop and spoil the enjoyment of the flowing ride. Next time I’ll have a Sony Action Cam on my helmet!

The Forests were special, the scenery as always spectacular, the trails neat, the cold but clear weather, all just so good!
    Well Done :)

Just wondering – is anyone who attended this ride able to email to me Saturdays route please?

When Sundays route was loaded into my Zumo 550, all of Saturdays route and trip log was deleted. I know there was difficulties loading the Zumos, as one of my ride partners had his Saturdays data removed as well.

Much appreciated to anyone who can send me this.

    Cheers

Baz we remove the previous days route every ride to prevent any confusion with the day 2 tracks if they go near one another or the reverse direction on the same track during the day. This is done for safety reasons mainly

Thanks TB – that makes a lot of sense.

I made every excuse i could to get away from work early and managed to leave only half an hour late..not much to do…scoot home, fit new rear tyre, pack all riding gear, load bike, double check everything, triple check everything…all good to go :woohoo:

Picked James up and headed to Mittagong for a much needed weekend on the bike.

It was great to catch up with the regulars and glad to hear that wiggy survived what could of been a hell of a lot worse accident on the M5 – glad to hear you are okay mate and a real shame you couldnt go on this ride.

We started off and after a small section of black top the fun began. we went through the hole in the wall and made our way into the pine forests.

The pine forest kept me on my toes all day with the slippery conditions making it tough to keep the bike upright!

I managed to catch this shot of James struggling with the same conditions…this was a different kind of frozen, icy clay slippery crap. One minute your up enjoying the view and the next minute…

and if you didnt catch that…

    now for the close up…

Did i metion the scenery and how good it was! Once again TB and the crew nailed it and a big thank you goes out to all involved…it is a real credit to you.

That night we told tales of the day and enjoyed a few beers  It was good to meet some new members and put faces to names.

    Day two – coming soon

Day two saw us ride what is in my new favourite track. The Abercrombie Forest had the right amount of everything – Steep accents, steep decents, wooboys, woohooboys, fast open sections, no dust and once again some awesome scenery. :woohoo:

The company was great and James and i kept a steady relaxed pace for the entire day. The tracks allowed you to have some fun on the bike and make up time where it was required.

There was a water crossing, i dont know where – you went down a grassy bank into the creek, turned sharp right through the water then along the slippery bank on the other side only to have to go up the shitty, muddy, slippery slope on the other side. James and i watched as a poor bloke on a Kato nearly drowned his steed. I was completly pscyched out by the whole thing with both the Beemer and me trembling at what lay ahead of us. Then, like a scene out of The Man from Snowy River ol’ mate on a BMW1200 sails past me, down the bank, through the water and up the other side without a care in the world.

With my new found inspiration, i shut my eyes, pointed the 800 in the right direction and wound on the gas…next thing you know, i up up the other side sucking in the big ones and thanking the bike gods that i didnt have to de-water the big girl. :S

I had a great second day. Here are some more shots what we took in.

Once again, thanks to all involved. I had a great weekend and i hope i get out to play again sooner rather than later.
