Well it looks like no one else is going to start this RR off, so here goes.

Four of us met at Cooranbong servo on Sunday morning at 6.30am, Gavb, Tryhard, Losta & Mickp for a run up to the Barrington Tops. We met a couple of other Adv riders that came into the servo on XTZ660 Teneres while we waited for all to arrive. They were headed in the opposite direction to us today but had been on some of the tracks we were planning to use so the info exchange was handy.

We were basically heading straight up the tar to Branxton to maximize our time for the dirt sections we wanted to explore. Halfway from Kurri to Greta the back tyre on Lotsas bike decided to go flat. On investigating it looked as though the balance weights that had been taped inside the tyre had come loose and caused a puncture. Rip out the weights, fit Waynes spare rear tube and pump up the tyre – not. The tube was piched during fitting so out came another tube, refitted with success this time.

Off we go and get about another 5k’s up the road and Waynes back tyre is flat again – F

On the side of the road we investigate again and it appears that the rimlock moulded rubber coating is cracking away from the alloy with the sharp edge cutting the tube. This tube is R/S as the valve has been ripped out. The original tube was patched, rimlock removed and tyre repaired OK, so we head off again.
We fuelled up at the Caltex at Branxton where the girls gave Gav some bacon & egg rolls they were going to turf out, so we had breaky there.
We turned off the highway just out of Branxton and followed the back roads past Singleton up to Albano Rd. Some great scenery up there.
I waited a while for Gav & Joe to come along before I could get photos of them, apparently Gav had a get off in one of the slippery causeways. Luckily only a few scatches.

At the end of Stoney Creek Rd we headed to Upper Rouchel where I suffered a similar fate to Gav on a causeway. Gav and Joe were on the other side of the causeway discussing how farkn slippery it was as I came across when all of a sudden the bike disappeared from under me. :S It happened that quick all I knew about it I was sliding along on my guts in about 6 inches of water. Gav reckoned the bow wave in front of me was impressive. It was good to cool down anyway as it was quite warm.
We continued along Upper Rouchel Rd heading to Stewarts Brook, near where Wayne was stranded before Christmas. The tracks in the mountains were still very slippery with Gavs bike deciding it wanted to lay down again.
We arrived at Dan & Kerries house (where Wayne had walked out of the mountains to previously) at Stewarts Brook where we chatted and had a cool drink while Dan showed us a guitar he was making (impressive). We cut the visit short as we wanted to make Moonan Flat pub before the lunches finished, so we hightailed it out to the Nundle Rd and up to the pub just in time. Joe and Wayne topped up with fuel at the pub while we waited for the lunches to come out. The great burgers and cold drinks went down well.

The day was fast disappearing so we headed off to Moonan Brook and over the Barrington tops via the main forest rd. About half way across the tops I had to pull up and take off my street GPS off as 3 of the 4 mounting bolts had disappeared.

Gav & I caught up to Wayne & Joe waiting in the shade of a tree and as we went to take off again I noticed Waynes back tyre flat again.

Another tube change on the side of the road again. I had one tube left. I think Wayne could do repairs blindfolded by now with all the practice he has had today. Wayne decided to zip tie the bike tyre change prop to his rack so we did not have to strip all the timber from the forests along the way.

It was getting late so we headed into Barrington and down to Rocky Crossing only to find the river running too deep and the causeway too slippery to risk crossing. The water was about 0.5 metre deep and the local kids were having trouble standing on the slippery bottom. So we did an about turn and head into Gloucester. As it was nearly 6pm we headed straight down Buckets Way to Heather Brae where we refueled and continued down the highway to home. We rode a lot more tar than we had planned, but that’s an adventure ride when shit happens.
I arrived home about 8pm and had done 600k’s for the day. Thank God for the airhawk seat.
Thanks guys for the great day out, I’ll take you down those other tracks another Adventure day out.

    Mickp

    PS
I spoke to Wayne on Monday evening and he told me when he got home from work the back tyre on his DR was flat AGAINN.

Sounds a whole lot like the ride we had the day before, Losta had just as many flats as I did, lucky he didn’t have a bee bite to the face to contend with as well. No wonder Losta PMed me yesterday asking where to get heavy duty 17″ tubes.

Great report, we should work out a route one weekend where the Nth Coast crew and you guys could hook up to explore the Barringtons a bit.

Jeffro, that day was lotsa flats. When I’m on the enduro bike it’s lotsa bruises, for some reason, and then there is lots of getting lost.

It was a top day anyway. I havn’t had to change a flat on a ride in ten years so got lotsa practice in one day.

Mick, a northern and southen groupd could meet at the western end of Tomalla Rd and and travel east together and seperate around Rookhurst.
