LC4skin sent me a text just before. it read,”im the king of the mountain”.

i bet hes already sauced to the eyeballs:laugh:

im with you mick, i miss the old days. i have a VHS tape (ha, remember them)  of bathurst highlights from the minis of ’67, onwoods till the ’80s. its wicked, the commentary is a crack up

    back when it was “real”.

with five studs on each wheel and shit

and sidchrome spanners where phat

i like bathurst and would love to go one year, but i too hate the commercialisation of the sport….or any sport for that matter….

but each to their own i say ;)

dissapointed: i thought my fishing would lure a malon.

yea i like the old days too.

i race old tech myself. my 2t bike is not much different from bikes from 20 years ago.
all my other bikes are at least 20 year old tech too. my favourite is the same age as me.

i drive one of those push rod taxis myself.

it’s true. in australia you can say you don’t like KTMs but you are not allowed to say ‘i think i would go riding than watch like the great race.

yea i would rather jump around at a music festival than watch v8 supercars. but thats me.

what is also true. if it wasn’t raining i would be doubling racy into town tonight on a vespa

    and i own a 50cc scooter myself

saying all that. if it rains all weekend, i may be stuck in front of the telly watching v8 supercars :(

Old school style car & bike races still happen, they just dont put them on TV much anymore.

Advertising is what keeps sports alive, especially car racing.

And if it wasn’t for modern technology we wouldn’t be sitting here using the interweb thingy.

Im off to the TAB to put money on a few cars and I think a trifecta with Lowndes in it is a must.

Ford vs Holden what a joke!

I agree with this comment. Other than a couple of cosmetic bits on the outside of these cars, ain’t sweet f#*k all Holden or Ford about em.

Personally I don’t back either brand and don’t watch the race. Old school was where it was at, even to the stage of the Sierras and Nissan’s kicking butt. Sad that once it was clear that all other brands had moved ahead of the Falcon/Commodore they closed it up and made it a two horse race. Still, there is always the 24 hour race and what have you. I reckon that’s a true test, basically standard cars up against each other as it used to be.

Just out of interest, I also have it on good authority that the race at Bathurst is the second largest single police operation annually in NSW. The largest is New Years Eave in Sydney.

That being said, it would be an experience and a half to go and watch it. More so if you are into that kinda thing!

I’ll (hopefully) be riding instead this year!

its got me stuffed i think everyone agrees with these comments but there is no change to the format of the cars, i have been reading a few magazines though and i think this opinion is starting to get some momentum so as long as some of these major motoring editors start talking it might start changing after all it was a motoring editors piece in a sunday paper that killed off the gtr xu2 and phase 4 all them years ago!!!

dont get me wrong i dont want any old car out there stick to the same format they did years ago that is they had to make at least 500 of them with the changes they wanted to race on the track hence how they got GTHOs, GTRs, L34, A9Xs same format just 30 years on now what a car that would be in a holden or ford i think the key is to put a price cap on the cars that you could race so it kept the exotic cars out and it was still a battle of cars we could all relate to . they were saying that it cost 22 million dollars to keep a team of 4 cars on the track for the year and they cant even say thats a simililar to what you can buy on monday at the car dealer.and the other benefit is that joe blow buys a commodore or a falcon or even a toyota fro that matter and he can buy proven aftermarket enhancement stuff for his car be it suspension or motor because they it would be the actuall motors and cars they produce you cant say the old group c were boring to watch and it produced the muscle cars that everyone wants today!!
