Well, I should be doing housework right now, but TB has put the pressure on for my first ride report, so I guess I had better come through with the goods. While I guess today’s ride wasn’t an official Old Bulls ride, since it consisted of Old Bulls members I guess it counts in some way.
After not making it to bed till after midnight last night, the alarm went off at 4:15 this morning. Hard to get out of bet at that hour to make it to Mt Vic to catch a train, but the conversation of the avid “trekkies” on the radio sure motivated me to get out of the bedroom (no offence to any Trekkie fans out there).
Mal5.1 and I made it to Mt Vic station with time to spare for the train leaving at 6.05am. It’s been quite some time since I’ve been on a train, and I can confidently say that it will be quite some time before I get on one again. Anyway, it beats walking. We made it to Hornsby by 9am, met up with TB and Mrs TB down the road and trudged the short distance to the bike shop to pick up the new ride a BMW F800GS. :woohoo: Once the ceremony of handing over the keys took place the four of us were on the road to Pie in the Sky, where we were supposed to meet up with Wickedbeemer.
We did a quick trip down the highway to the bridge and back up again and pulled into Pie in the Sky at around 10am. No sign of Wickedbeemer, so we ordered our food and drinks and pulled up a seat in the shade. By 11am we decided Wickedbeemer must still be in bed so we took a couple of quick pics to prove we were there and were back on the road again to do some shopping in Parramatta.
The trip to Parramatta had us riding in temperatures between 34-38 degrees – getting to be way too hot, and that’s coming from someone who loves the heat.
Now Mal5.1 is pretty used to my shopping habits, but I can see I have a lot of educating to do on TB. For some reason Bulls just don’t grasp the concept that to Bulletes, appearance and style of a product rank just as highly as safety and practicality. But despite the hollow arguments of Mrs TB and myself we left the store with some pretty nice purchases. Thank you TB for your patience and advice it was very much appreciated. I’m sure Mal5.1 is more than happy with how much of his money you spent (again).
It was heading close to 2pm and TB and Mal5.1 were getting quite anxious about their stomaches and the fact that counter meals finish at 2pm. Mrs TB and I were left to pay while TB and Mal5.1 bailed out the door with all the old and new gear. Another thanks I must send to the TBs is for loading up their ride with all our gear. As TB put it – his bike looked like a Malaysian Shopping Trolley.
With the bikes loaded, Mrs TB and I in our new gear (obviously so we’d make TB and Mal5.1 look good on their rides), we were off in 40 degree heat to the pub. After a revamp in the airconditioned pub, we were back on the M4 heading for home. It was 3.00 Pm and we were hitting temperatures of 43.5 degrees on the freeway. The air was so hot you couldn’t breath. About half way along the freeway, Mal5.1 moved in front of TB – head down in the heat and we were off to McDonalds Blaxland. The TBs were about 5 minutes behind us in reaching McDonalds.
Mal5.1 and I unloaded our backpack from TB’s panniers, said our goodbyes and headed for home. Heading west across the mountains it dropped around 10 degrees which made the ride more bearable. We stopped in at Mt Vic to pick up the car at the train station and Mal5.1 headed home solo, where he tells me the new bike goes really well without me on the back!!!!. HmmmmmThank you to TB and Mrs TB for coming along. It’s good to share the fun. Can’t wait to start doing all the rides we’ve talked of. Stay tuned everyone, when we get something organised, we’ll start posting. Although after the heat today, we might postpone any rides to the east to the cooler months

Either way it will be sweet as,,,It’s a spanker Eags. The few pre loved ones we found were priced to close to a new one to bother driving the distance for a look.
January 23, 2010 at 12:30 pm #169168Well the ride to collect the new bike was very much anticipated for Salina and myself. Its lucky I have access to some of the pictures from today that Mal cant load at work
Donna mentioned Trekkie fans at 4.30am this morning in her report, we found that interesting because I am reliably informed the only Trekkie fans around was Mal and Donna returning from Portland RSL weekly Trekkie convention at that time this would explain their tired look all day
Sure they made it to the thriving Mt Vic train station
Where they waited for the new Portland flyer express train from their home town
And then like Donna said the ceremony of handing over the keys took place
A quick trip as Donna said to the pie in the sky to meet Wikdbemmer and practice the BMW wave, here is Donna and Mal doing the wave for the BMW riders at the pie in the sky
(nice wig Mal)
Mal tucked into a pie or 8
We ducked down to MCA for a jacket and helmet etc for the girls but all the old stuff still had to be transport home didnt it  That didnt stop the girls did it no
So we loaded my Trusty Honda NX up with all the goods, not the new BMW oh no thats to new
Didnt matter how many different ways I loaded it, it still looked over loaded
And on the road from behind
Side view on the road
And another view
But the trusty old NX made it to the pub for lunch
Where of course I had a salad
We then set of home I felt like I would have been better driving a
And I got to say traveling across the below would have been easier
Mean while Mal and Donna gave the new bemmer is head
A great day was had by all, thanks guys and I dont mind loading the photos
Cheers TB

Turns out I arrived only moments after you left, never mind. You know all BMW gear has 2 years warranty dont you, not just the bike.
Also my dealer (not the Hornsby one) gives me Trade price on all accessories and some spares, try that on them, it can make a big difference when you add it to the 2 yr warranty for things like gloves etc.
I found the BMW Rallye 2 gloves the best gloves I have ever worn, by a country mile and I have had quite a few pair in my time.
Dont let the price tag affect your decision because their discount might be a big surprise now you have the bike
In any case you could just borrow Mals credit card :ohmy:January 23, 2010 at 7:52 pm #169182Mal,,from now on Donna should do all your ride reports,OK. she is a natural. 😆
as for your report TB,,(you peanut) :woohoo:
as per everyone,,,,piccies of your new pride and joy would be nice????

Good on ya’s
After doing another 300km today on the KLR I reckon I could almost stick with dual sport riding these days
Hey TB what brand or gear racks do you use on the NX to hold all that stuff? (reference the pics from your report)
