Does anyone have any knowledge on the berg 390 ? Im in the market and cant decide what to buy.

Ive heard rave reviews on the kato 400 and was wondering how the 390 stood up against it.

A mate of mine has one and it is f*#king excellent, my bro rides a 450 KLX, he likes riding the Berg, he reckons if he buys a new bike it will be a 390 Berg or a 400 KTM.

250 doesnt have enough but these have just the right amount of power.

Thanks LC. I was originally keen on a 570 but i think it might be to much bike for me:laugh:

The 390 might be the way to go.

i was going to suggest a Kato 690, but if the 450 is too much bike for you. if the 450 is too much how is upgrading to a berg 390 or the Kato 400 going to help??

See if you can have a ride on the 390 450 AND 570 before you decide.

EFI makes for very smooth and controllable power

Mate if you thought of the 570 and now want to go to the 390 Ide say have a ride on both because when youve got the 390 and your looking for that little bit extra it wont be there and dont forget that the 390 450 and 570 are all approx the same weight and same dimensions.
I have the 570 and I ride it within my limits its not a hard bike to ride at all, if anything it makes you ride better its more forgiving and dosnt tire you out like some of the other bikes do.
    FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Hatto,s right I brought an 09 KTM400 an love it .I found that riding the 400 was very similiar to the 250 but with endless torque. We do alot of single trail down this way so it suits our rides but it can also blast down the fire trails as well.

Other than the slug and sleeve, what is different between the 390 and 570? ignition timing? ECU settings? How good would it be if you could just rip the slug out and put the other sleeve on and go for it!?

    Yep daddy AB

you can take the slug out of the 450 and fit it to the 390.

as they are both 95mm bore. the 570 is 100mm bore, interestingly the 390/450 are 11.1:1 comp ratio, but the 570 is 12.2:1.

all 3 of the the older Bergs with the upright cylinder were a 100mm bore but just a different stroke.

choppa ( has a 570 ) on the last ride i did with him at Glenmaggie found out if there is any residue of fuel on the air filter from washing it, it plays havoc with the ECU and oxygen sensor

Aido shoulda kept his Kato 250 and put the 350 kit in it :p

Do you mean the other way around – bore is different stroke is the same?

edit: nvm b/s ratio is as follows 95/55.5 – 95/63.4 – 105/72 for the 3 different units. Interesting that they change stroke not bore…

you almost had me going for a moment AB,

but never mess with someone that has a super power 👿

Google is my friend :woohoo: my memory is not :(

2006 Berg all 100mm bore, stroke : 450- 57.2mm, 550- 70mm, 650 80mm. the complete bottom end, gearbox etc. were identical. just a different crank and conrod. i’m not sure if the cams and carbs were the same or not.

Edit: AB where did you find the info you posted, the info i got was the 570 is 100mm bore, but your’s 105mm.

just trying to get the proper info..is all
