I wear a pressure suit with hard plastic chest and back protector it is an EVS I think. I have had it for 6 years. I really wanted chest protection from sticks sticking into you after I witnessed an incident in the Watagans years ago. Back protector couldn’t hurt I figure. The hard plastic has padding inside best of both worlds I figure
Mick I believe you were saved from serious injury at Capertee because of that neck brace because if you tucked your head when it hit the ground first you would have hyper extented it

Have you settled on a solution?
Soft like this?
or this one?

I’ve been using the top one for almost 12 months now Krusty and I like it , it gets used about 3 times a month and washed after every ride and is showing no signs of wear yet ,I’ve also had plenty of offs to test it out !!
Chris-T has the bottom armor and regrets buying it , he says it moves around too much and is a bit bulky.

August 29, 2012 at 2:03 am #228582I wear Fox roost armour only and it has saved me countless times. I have no input on whether the full body armour would be better, I guess it would as it’s probably one of the few areas where ‘more is more’.
I have had a few rock hits (big ones) that has missed the armour and hurt but they are few an far between. The amount of times I’ve fallen/flipped/supermanned and landed on rocks on back the armour has doubtless saved me from serious injury. Not to mention the times I’ve been jousted by sticks and it has stopped me having a hole in my chest.
A few people on here have seen some decent crashes crashes I’ve had and walked away from without any chest/back injuries.
I don’t know if the soft stuff would have the same impact resistance.

Here’s their spiel on the back protector :
” The Forcefield Sport Lite 2 back protector achieves CE approval EN1621-2:2003 (Level 2) the highest level possible.
The protective qualities of the Sport Lite 2 are provided by Nitrex Evo ® a unique high tech triangular shock absorbing material combined with dense and light weight layers of foam designed to be soft, flexible and comfortable whilst still providing maximum impact protection. Nitrex Evo® also provides Repeat Performance Technology (RPT) to ensure that even after multiple impacts there is no loss of protective performance.
Constructed with a removable and washable outer cover to enable the Sport Lite 2 to be kept clean and hygienic it also makes the protector more flexible as it is not bonded at the edges increasing comfort in use.
Fully adjustable shoulder straps and double waist adjustment ensure a correct and comfortable fit for different body shapes.
The Sport Lite 2 is ideally suited to action sports such as skiing, snowboarding mountain biking and off road/adventure motorcycling.”Nick
August 29, 2012 at 2:49 am #228589Sounds like a good thing Nick, gotta love modern technology! It would be hot in the summer but so is a hard pressure suit so much of a muchness.
I didn’t use to like the fcat that when my camelback was loaded up the shoulders in my roost armour would sometimes dig in and be uncomfortable. The soft armour would stop that too.
Only other issue is that you pretty much have to wear it underneath your jersey, meaning it would smell quickly. It is washable and I guess having to wash that along with your other bike gear isn’t exactly a big hassle.

As some of you are aware i don’t wear any
Just never had any too wear or bought any
I had a ROCKET up my arse on the weekend and i bounced off a tree in some pine single
This made me think about it again(I thought about pulling over and having a sook , but rocket said no  )I have been thinking about it , have sort of come to the conclusion that i really don’t know what to get
I need roost protection because i tend to ride up peoples arses a bit
If i were to buy some i would want some sort of body “protection”Do a lot of the suit type ones get very hot and sticky
Have we come to a verdict on the hard and soft issue ??
Whatever i get i am going to hate ,they all we be bulky or tight and uncomfortable against what i currently use
August 30, 2012 at 6:30 am #228598I’ve got a new Fox body armour in a large you have for cheap if you’re keen. It’s the hard front and back roost protector. Not as all encompassing as the others but as restrictive either and I honestly don’t notice it when riding.
August 30, 2012 at 8:08 am #218319You won’t notice it if I’m wearing it
I was looking at fox titan 2013 this morning , is it simmilar to that ?
Your a gym junkie , i’m just a fat bugger ,assuming large will fit
How Much
August 30, 2012 at 9:53 am #228612Having crash tested my Dianese body armour and broken my collar bone in five ,it’s got me thinking what would have happened if I had been wearing the forcefield soft armour. The Dianese has hard plastic outer with some soft padding attached to the inside. The pattern of the holes in the soft padding was visible on my skin so it was a big hit having high sided the bike and knocked myself out.
In this instance I’m not sure by using the entirely soft armour would have lessened the injury.
Funny this post has been resurected. I looked at copy Dianese body armour today and it fitted well for $99. My current Dianese body armour must be 10 years old and I havn’t found it again to replace it.
It needs replacing though. The buttons and rivets have come off the back brace and I’ve used cable ties to keep it together.
Pity there is only the choice of soft and hard and not a bit of both.
August 30, 2012 at 1:23 pm #228617I have some of the 4bp body armour, their site sponsors. It took a few rides to get used to but I think its pretty good. I wear a long sleeve set of ‘skins’ underneath to help whip away the sweat.
It has saved me more than once.
Just my two bobs worth…
Cheers

It’s a 2012 Fox R3 Roost protector as pictured below:
Large should fit you fine. I only used it once and haven’t been to the gym in years so I’m sure you’ll be right
$50 to you Rickybobby, if you don’t want it someone else on here can have it for $25  Jokes, just jokes!!

That’s good cause I bought the dianese copy today. There is a problem with it though, the belly strap has been made a bit short….must be a design fault.
I’ll give it a go tomorrow
