Thinking of larger tank on the drz 400 for adventure riding any thoughts on a good tank, there is one on ebay at the moment but I dont no if it will fit over the radiator guards they are force guards, I asked the guy what brand of guards he had and he can not remember but he thinks they may of had a scorpion logo on them.
September 5, 2010 at 10:16 pm #187031If it’s for a DRZ then it will fit over the guards Al. There are a few brands out there but Safari and Acerbis are probably the most popular with Safari being an Aussie product. I have a 22 litre Safari tank on mine whith Force guards and no problems. I will get over 400 km to a tank I’d reckon, haven’t had the chance to run it out yet but have done up to 360km with a few litres left in it
September 5, 2010 at 10:49 pm #187032How far you want to go on one tank Al? Do you want incorporated fins/shrouds?
Incorporated Shrouds:
Safari 28 Liter (Holds more)
Safari 17 Liter (Holds heaps more)
IMS 17.5 Liter (Holds only a little more)No shrouds but use stock:
Clark 14 Liter
IMS 12 Liter
Acerbis 15 LiterThe Safari Tanks are a fixed price so getting from USA won’t be any cheaper.. All other tanks can be purchased from Just Gas Tanks in the USA..
I have been averaging 20-21 Kilometers per liter on the Adventure rides..
Cheers…
Chris……….September 5, 2010 at 11:02 pm #187034I have just fitted a 28 litre safari tank to my Drz and I had to remove the radiator gaurds to get it on, the sides of the tank are quite snug fitting so I’m not sure which radiator gaurds would work with this tank.
I filled it from empty and it was bang on 28 liters.
The biggest surprise was that it made faster fire road riding more comfortable and reduced the wind on your legs.An off camber sharp turn on gravel with a full tank nearly ended in tears but I think that’s to be expected.
Overall I am much happier than I thought I would be with a tank of this size and have yet to see how far it will get me

Chris……….September 6, 2010 at 10:31 am #187057Al if the 15 liter is the go for you the Clark or Acerbis is the one you want… Check out thumper talk as well.. In the DRZ400 section there are some photos and feedback.. Search the DRZ forum for “Tank” Some guys don’t like the height of the tank as it is taller and apparently could ram the nutso’s while standing.. I think the Acerbis is around $320 delivered Clark is cheaper..
