I was just wondering what is the best way to keep the plastics looking good and if there is any way of getting the fine scratches out.

    I use bike shine.

it puts a semi silicone cover on the plastics. When you ride next time the dirt, although sticks to the silicone, when it comes time to wash it, the dirt mostly slides right off. When i wash my bike i dry it off then spray all the plastics and leave it overnight then give it a wipe off next time i’m in the shed.

Makes the plastics look awesome when you are selling a bike as well, hides some of the smaller scrapes and scratches.

Note: Never, ever, even think about, not ever, not in a billion years should you put it anywhere near your seat. If you do the next time you ride you’ll be doing accidental supermans and one handed seat grabs all day just trying to stay on :pinch:. This will also result in a million more scratches on your beloved bike. (i’ve been there and it’s not pretty!):woohoo:

I do struggle with getting a good finish on my bashplate and exaust though…any suggestions there?

Yeh, I made the mistake of putting Armourall on my seat once, best way to combat the sliding was to rub it with dirt.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

Mate the bikes only as fast a the clown on the seat and in my case sometimes lying next to it.

Yes it works well but holy crap it’s a long process and you need to keep recoating it with the plastic renew as it wears off, but it does give an excellent result if you are prepared to put the elbow grease in. The other thing you could do is cover the plastics with the ballards clear skins, doesn’t look the best but when you peel it off and clean the residue, your plastics will look brand new. Or buy cheapy aftermarkets as I have done for my side covers.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Also I got some of that Lanox that micknmeld recommended ages ago, it also makes your plastic look new and shiny. It’s good stuff.

Jeffro I dont know if you have realised but some one has invaded your computer and is typing shit in there about a DRZ rider being incapable of riding up to and beyong the level of them far inferior KTM riders and the likes.
Only reason you would be laying next it would be due to you waiting for the others to catch up.;) ;) ;) ;)

LANOX is the DUCKS GUTS for making old plastics look new again. We spray our bikes with it after every wash. Not the discs though.

I agree with that. Also spraying your bike with Lanox or Inox makes them easier to wash the next time. I have no scientific proof it just seems to work. As well as plastics looking good your motor will look good too.

I avoid WD40 as it is petrolium based and have heard that it can bugger the insulation on wires? Where Inox or Lanox isn’t.
