G,Day,
Got my bike 4 sale at the moment and keep getting these dumb ass enquiries, some women sends e-mail leaving her number and when i ring her back doesn’t evan know what bike i’m talking about and when i tell her its a wr250 she is totally confused at what bike she has enquired about and says uum Honda. But just wants my address to come see it,which i say nah.Seems dodgey to me and wonder what they are trying to achieve, any one experienced this before?
Was expecting the oldy i’m working on an oil rig and want to buy it for my son and will pay more
September 10, 2011 at 5:02 pm #208490Whenever i sell something on car or bikesales i get the same thing, I rang their office and they said discard anyone who asks you to contact them and if they are a buyer they will call you.
September 10, 2011 at 5:13 pm #208491Yep bikesales still has no anti spam protection. I f&$@@n hate those theaving mofos. Ill never use them again.
September 10, 2011 at 5:16 pm #208492Good advice Nato.
September 10, 2011 at 5:21 pm #208499i dont know about scammers but i sold my RG500 over 5 years ago and i still get 1 to 2( they are different buyers going by there Email address) amonth try to get info on it i cancelled the add but they still want to know about it ?? maybe its just like your talking about trying to scam something out of me
September 10, 2011 at 5:24 pm #208498Yep had it for all vehicles I’ve sold on there and on ebay as well. I never ring a number back unless they leave a message. I relpy to SMS message saying ‘if you are interested ring me!’
I had one ‘company’ ring from Sydney wanting me to bring the car to Sydney and pay them a percentage to sell my car. I told them to come and buy the car from me and they can do what they like with it.
When I have time to chat it’s good fun to string them along for a while.
September 10, 2011 at 5:34 pm #208493Sometimes you get an sms asking you to email a certain address, but you can`t reply to the sms !!! or there is a name only, no number !!!!
Scammers will try anything to get your details, I just ignore them all.
Also never give your location, arrange to meet somwhere else to view the itemJust the other day I got a phone scammer trying to get me to install solar panels on my house, when I told her to go jump, she said my wife has already agreed to the install an hour ago, which I knew was bullshit cause my wife was not even home all day and I have a private number. The scammer was quoting the wrong surname as well
September 10, 2011 at 5:41 pm #208500I have two cars and a bike for sale at the moment and the spams are driving me crazy.
September 10, 2011 at 5:43 pm #208494Thanx for the tips OB’s,and will definately do the meet at location, funny i don’t remember any of this when the trading post was actually on paper and there was no internet.
Now my phone keeps ringing and hanging up,i’m getting paranoid  Might just have to convince my wife that we need a dirt bike mounted on the lounge room wall…..

Don’t tell me you’re joining the ‘ball chaffing’ (cycling) brigade and start drinking coffee from a glass?
Picked a new bike yet Twobanger? 4T or 2T?

Im selling to cars to buy one mate.
Not sure on the bike yet, im waiting to see what yamaha do with the WR. will be a 4banger tho.September 10, 2011 at 7:05 pm #208495All good advise on here. Make them contact you and never meet them at home always a different location. As for spam when selling set up a spare Hotmail or Gmail account just for this purpose. If you have an old mobile phone get yourself a cheap prepaid sim card and use this number for the add, when you have made the sale throw it away.
You would be surprised how many people fall for these scams. We get people in at work everyday wanting to report being ripped off. When I here some of their stories I want to tell some of them they are victims of their own stupidity.
September 11, 2011 at 4:07 am #208496It’s a two edged sword. I have been looking for a used Kato and saw a bike on bikesales from memory I was interested in. No phone number in the add and I wasnt prepared to put my mobile in the “Put your number to get their number screen”, so I used the enquiry option to ask some questions about the bike. Received a stupid responce back about how “Sic” the sticker kit was, so I scrubbed that bike off the list.
Seller may have thought the inquiry was from a scammer, but I’m happy to keep looking after getting a stupid responce.
September 11, 2011 at 9:49 pm #208497I was selling a boat once…a 16 ft fishing boat..old piece of crap really  …some dude from “England” was making an enquiry and told me that he would like his “Shipping agent” to process the sale blah blah  …couldn’t help myself…had to text him back..told him that he was a f&$%ing peanut but he was more than welcome to come and buy it on the provission that he drives it back to the White Cliffs of Dover whearing nothing but a Borat style Man-kini
….never heard from him again…shame really
