I smashed my switchblock on the last ride and want to simplify the set up and I’m looking for some advice. I don’t run blinkers and I’m going to hardwire the headlight off the stator but I need a killswitch and possibly a horn button. With the horn I was considering just removing it – I don’t really use it to be honest so I don’t think I can be bothered sorting it out.
For the killswitch I found this…
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220454420387
Seems like a simple cheap option and since it has tails I could just buy a plug from dick smiths or the like and wire it up myself.
Can you buy these switches in the shops and if so where and what would I expect to pay? I figured that I wanted it mounted on the bars so I’d have to look to a bike shop and I imagine they probably charge a bomb for the same thing.
Cheers
p.s 900 posts – all of my milestones seem to be posts asking for help fixing my bike
January 18, 2010 at 2:25 am #168465Really Blue if you want to get rid of all the bells and whistles, what more than that switch would you want????
It will do the job, just keep the reconection back to standard easy for resale reasons.

January 18, 2010 at 2:28 am #168468Why not just a normal “press to kill” switch like most MX bikes have?
January 18, 2010 at 2:29 am #168466Good switch I reckon, its the same as my kill switch, never given me a drama.
If it was me I would hook another switch to switch my headlight off. That said I would put a genuine switch block back on as its a new bike and I would like in original condition, surely you couldn’t destroy it again could you

January 18, 2010 at 2:35 am #168471Believe it or not I was going to remove it because it was too clunky and mostly useless. Why have a blinker switch but no blinkers? This isn’t show and shine mate I’m all about fit for purpose. I might buy a couple and see if I can wire the headlight up too but what for? When do you ever need your headlight off when it off the stator only?
Ollie, do you have a link to where I can buy one from or know roughly what a bike shop charges? I know I paid $100 for the on/off starter switch block for my KTM when they replaced it.
January 18, 2010 at 2:36 am #168475try and make sure you use a possitive click switch, not one you hold in then let out once the motor stops.
they make it hard for TB to hit your kill switch when your riding along.LOL

January 18, 2010 at 2:44 am #168477Most bike shops should have them mate about $20. The yamaha style is a good one from memory.

January 18, 2010 at 2:47 am #168479Here’s a distant look at the OEM switchblock which also shows the map switch which is the same as the ebay one I linked and I believe the KTMs also use it for their map switch.
p.s. Boony, KTM comes from Kronrief and Trunkenpolz were the builders and they were out of Mattieghoffen, Austria.

January 18, 2010 at 2:52 am #168486What about registration time AB, you will need your horn and blinkers ten. Any switch you get will be better to be waterproof as well so you could look at somewhere like Bias boating warehouse in Hunter street near the railway bridge.
January 18, 2010 at 2:54 am #168487Just one important thing AB the switch that Ollie mentioned the push type that motorcross bikes have isnt any good for an enduro style bike, cause when you fall of in a big puddle / creek a simple flick as you are falling saves your engine where trying to hold a push switch as you fall in is to hard. I actually saw this happen, the engine took in water and bent a conrod
Cheapest not always best or cheapest in the long run, just my opinionTB
January 18, 2010 at 2:58 am #168493Comes standard on most real Enduro bikes as well? Cant say Ive ever seen that happen preety low odds Id say!
