May 26, 2009 at 2:25 am #136474seems it all got too much for aidan to write anything in his last post – wonder which pain it was – was it his new found damaged leg – or the mental vision of everyone having so much fun without him !
or of course a nurse may have arrived and distracted him

OK Aidank just a quick update from north western central queensland, the panel beater said the headlight will be ok, I was lucky that they got a photo of me practising my wheelstands

May 27, 2009 at 8:01 am #136645Well folks I am back at home again, how goooood it is to escape the Westmead jail, that stuff they serve can’t even be described as food. How bad that place is is enough incentive to avoid a spill. I should say the docs were very good though, and did a fine metalwork job.
Looking forward to the cape York ride report from TB on the weekend, although am expecting the “I’m running late” call about midday friday.
Had a few moments over the last few days to think about my misadventure and just for sharings sake here are some of them:
First one of the thoughts is how grateful I am of how things panned out because boy this could have had a very different ending.
Another one is about the a massive shot of faith in my fellow humans I’ve just been given, and particularly riders, full respect to OBT spirit. I have told everyone I know about you guys and their comments are glowing. Having a buddy like Craig who stuck by me was fantastic. And my family and friends have been great (I think I am still a bike rider).
Then another one is how we must respect the places we ride in, you don’t have to ride a 1000 clicks from Sydney to be dangerously remote. If I hadn’t fallen in your guys path Craig and I would have had an interesting challenge on our hands. I am signing up for a full first aid course and from now on will always ride with enough preparation to be able to handle a major injury or unplanned overnight out.
Further to that a tiny little nothing fall can result in the need for a full blown rescue. I was going just 20kph and unluckily happened to fall with the foot awkwardly under the bike. So always be prepared, and we were grossly under-prepared for being out there.
And before this gets way too deep the last one is… this ain’t gonna stop me, I love riding bikes in this great country and always will. This was just part of the journey. Next year the plan is to ride from Cape Byron, the country’s easterly most point, to Sandy point in WA, the country’s most westerly point. (that’s either on my beema or whatever TB gives me back). And the OBT stickers will be carried with pride. Hope to on the bike soon and meet you all for a ride or two.
Cheers’folks and I’ll post the rescue photos tonight if I figure out how to.
