BC they are pretty heavy, about 230kg fueled, but remarkably nimble for their size.

I was very lucky on a number of counts. Been a humbling experience for sure.

yep what i thought they were, how do they go in the slimy clay?

not bagging just interested in the “weight makes them stable in all conditions” theory that gets bandied about.

As per usual, the lens doesn`t do justice to the steepness of the trail,,,,,
It was actually quite greasy & off camber, ask a few of the guys that slipped over walking around while Crash looked after Aidan on the side of the trail:P

Nice pics Aidan, despite the injury that is:lol:

Chopper arrived and winched down the doctor and paramedic
    548080196_b9B8W-L.jpg

That was handing over more morphine after taking my boot off, vvvvv painful. They also put me on a backboard and collared me for precaution.
    548084973_96W3s-L.jpg

What a sweet sound… they decided that because my condition was far from life threatening they wouldn’t risk a winch up…
    548082171_eDqc2-L.jpg

…but would take me in the 4×4 ambulance to a clearing 4ks away where the chopper could land.

Chopper coming in to another KTM flare:lol: These birds are brand new, apparently the most versatile rescue chopper with best speed, range, power, room etc

    Getting things ready
    548088509_WBi2T-L.jpg

Getting ready to carry me on the board, apparently I’m a real lump
    548089193_7XspS-L.jpg

Shutting the door, the sound of these things is amazing
    548090387_yhVc5-L.jpg

Lift off, first for Nepean hospital then change in middair for Westmead, suited me as its closer to home
    548091972_EacaP-L.jpg

Not a flattering shot but wwanted to show they mistook me for a KTM rider and gave me one of their hospital tops:woohoo: Also funny.. I had to fight like crazy with the emergency staff who wanted to cut my riding pants off, eventually talked them into getting them off the normal way, no matter how much I screamed
    548092510_izec8-L.jpg

well as they say.. That’s all folks, so how did everyone else join OBTs?

Photography credits to Craig H, (thanks mate for staying with me, and enduring a 4 hour ride home in the dark afterwards)

BTW I have had to do some research on ambulance/rescue/helicopter and costs/health funds etc so i will start another thread and share what I have learned, some things have changed recently

Good luck with your recovery Aidan.
The rescue helicopters do a great job, my youngest son (now 18) has already had 2 trips in them from bike accidents. He has been talking about selling his bike lately as he now has a girlfriend. How our priorities change!!!!

Might have to drag my GS from under the cover and catch up with you for a ride when alls mended.
