February 26, 2012 at 9:06 pm #217087I just had my new bike fitted with force radiator guard, force bash plate and biketique (barkbusters). The pivot pegs I just recieved from a good mate are being rebuilt tonight and fitted tomorrow. Jury is still out on the pivots. I’ll let you know. I run twinair as my filters. It’s not about bling, its about comfort and protec. My 2bob worth.

ActionFrom a 450 owners perspective…..
Force Readiator guards are the go, they’ve been known to replace them for free if they get bent.
B&B bash plates work well although they need the mud scoop at the front filled in, Force sound good with single bolt release.
Barkbusters, Biketique make a good cheap copy, parts are interchangable withBarkbusters, we’ve been running them for a while now.
Definitely look at a TM Designworks slide & guide kit, the rear guide bends easily & can never be bent to be like OEM, the front slide wear well, although TM are tough.
Maybe a TM Designworks rear disc guard as well, (TM gear is exy but pays off with longevity
Case Saver, Force make these, ditch the OEM guard it’s a haven for mud on a wet ride.
After a bit of time, a fork upgrade as they are average & get worse with age.
Braided front brake hose, will make KTM owners weep with the stopping power & feel it provides.
Headlight protector, surrounds are cheap, the lense unit big$$$$$$
Billet Clutch cover, saw a billet one damaged yesterday & if it was OEM it would have been holed + you can put the shiny OEM on when you go to sell the bike
Decent set of grips as the OEM are hard as & with standard forks will punish your hands (Pillow tops seem ok)
I’ve worn the frame on my bike & a set of carbon frame guards, alloy frame guards may be the go in the future if this happens.
That’s all for the moment, will add anything else
February 27, 2012 at 12:47 am #217094Uni Filter Pro Comp 2 air filters are the go, tried a few different brands & these have held up well, even in the worst conditions at Finke they let no dust through, used with Motorex foam filter oil not uni filter oil.
Can be separated for washing, this way you know they are clean, not like others where dust can be trapped between glued layers.
Are a PITA to fit, once you do it a few times it gets easier
February 27, 2012 at 12:30 pm #217137Just for the sake of reinforcing wat has already been said. Protection gear. I’d get
Barkbusters/hand guards
Bash plate
Case saver
Radiator guards
headlight protectorI had all B&B gear on my old WR250. All excellent and strong. I have force radiator guards and whipps bash plate and case saver on the KTM (B&B don’t make a 2T pipe guard). Whipps gear is excellent as well. I would go B&B radiator guards over Force as I reckon they are slightly more open with angled fins allowing better air flow and easier cleaning. Not sure if there is a price difference though. Force are certainly strong enough.
I run Cycra Stealth hand guards. Excellent hand guards. Never broken a lever or guard yet touchwood. Then again I’ve got to say KTM levers are much better than yamaha ones. They seem to be able to be straightened without snapping.
I’ve used uni filter and twin air filters. Both are good. Twin air doesn’t look as capable as uni filter but I have never had dust get through yet.
Congrats on the bike. It’s a great model. You will love it. It certainly looks like it was owned by somebody who looked after it.
February 27, 2012 at 5:31 pm #217082This is the mod sb referred to regarding filling in the mud scoop on the B&B bashplate.

February 27, 2012 at 8:24 pm #217083I actually contacted B&B and showed them the photos they weren’t interested in the mod or changing there design. Too many concerns about overheating????? Needless to say we have never had an issue with overheating.

Needless to say we have never had an issue with overheating.Obviously they aren`t worried about the copious amounts of mud, crud & rocks that would work their way in there too and contribute to more possible damage  :pinch:
Great mod I reckon ,,, and Yeah, Nice Weld
