    Hi Guys

Bloody Fantastic, this is the place I was looking for !!

I’ve been toying with the idea of buying an XR250R for little while.
Haven’t owned a bike for thirty Years, Shit has it been that long ?? it’s time to rectify that I think

I’m 50 now and still have my cycle license.
Riding is not something you forget though as I had a ride on someones
DR250 a few week ago and what a hoot it was to throw over a leg again, I had a very enjoyable if short ride

Here’s a list of my Previous rides I had over the years

A lawnmower power mini bike, cam with a zip start and a centrifugal clutch It was fun when you were 12 or so
Next was a little Yamaha called a DT60, a mini Bike, again lots of fun in thousands of K’s
After that was a YZ125a I think, A wild ride that I remember taming into a great little trail bike with shock kits and carb tweak etc… lots of fun again
the next one was my Craziest beast ever, an IT250, blue, fast, wild, it was a hoot, virtually the same as a YZ 250 with a bit more bottom end and a different gear ratio spread
And last was an XT250 I think ? another Yamaha, bit vague on that one, but I do remember having to totally alter my riding style to suit the thumper, a big learning curve
but again lots of fun spending many hours exploring the Blue Mountains, (Anyone see a recurring pattern here, bikes = FUN), I then moved back to the City (Sydney) where
I got into SCUBA diving for many years.

I now live in Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains again where I am into Archery and shoot a compound bow and have a shooters license and shoot a .22 PCP Airgun which
is soon to go and be replaced with a .22 CZ455 rimfire (I don’t think the Rifles and the bikes are the same company, not sure though)

I have a fair amount of questions about the XR and boots, gear, helmets etc.. which I will post in the appropriate sections

    Cheers
    BM Steve

Welcome to the mad house Steve. :)

Nice list of toys and hobbies there mate.

When you get a set of wheels come on up to Sunny Corner for a look around.

Careful of the XR nutbags on here, they’ll beat you into buying a 650 before you know it.

    Enjoy the site mate.

Welcome Steve, Thanks for the intro. You cant go wrong with a XR, you might want to check out a XR400 before you make a purchase though, Top little bike. Any XR question, just shoot mate, we will do our best to help you out.
I also had years off the bike doing the Scuba diving and Marlin fishing things. They are both addictive and expensive sports and as you will find bikes can be too.
    Cheers

    Welcome to OBT Steve.

Your story is a very common one here. I too started out with a lawnmower powered bike which got me started. I rode for a decade till I was 17 then did not twist a throttle for the next 20 years. I moved from the big smoke, bought a WR250 and found this site. That all happened in the last two years and I have since been on some great rides with some great guys and girls.
Mentioning XR in your first post is like the secret hand shake around here

Enjoy the site and don’t be shy to ask any questions you have.

    Thanks guys

I was kind of after something with a bit less punch therefore, an XR250 rather than a 400, but having said that if an XR400R comes along at the right price and condition, well I may not be able to resist :)

OK Mal5.1 I would look forward to that and only a little way from where I live, cool :)

And cheers to STM, Jeffro and Micknmeld, thanks for the reply’s

steve i got back into riding 4 years ago after not having riden for 25 years.I made the mistake

of buying the wrong bike first up and re-sold it after 2 months. If i had my time again i would

buy a DRZ400 first up. Hope this helps ;)

Such wisdom from our newly appointed moderator. My Honda googles wouldn’t let me see the big picture and what Aido says is right on the mark. A DRZ400 is a very capable user friendly bike with the all important (for some) electric start.

Thanks for the advise, I do like to keep things simple though and cooling systems with radiators
are to much for me, an XR250L is something I would consider no problems, also the XR250 is a lot cheaper than both the XR400 and the DRZ, I want to keep the price around $5000 all up

Cheers all and have a Great New Year

    Steve
