Oh Well,
Blew the left seal on the KLX forks on the HILL END ADVENTURE.
Looks like I`m after SEAL SAVERS as soon as the legs are rebuilt;)
Spose I am lucky this was the only real damage, besides a slightly bent set of bars from the impact with TERRA FIRMA when I did my ankle:blink:Stoked though that the Green Machine made the distance, not havin the legs of the big bore thumpers I was following (except the WR`s) they just hammer regardless(Hey Chris & ECKS)
Then when loadin the beast on Crash`s ute at Sofala, TB abuses me bout the loose left grip:blush: Sorry TB, my grips have been glued on, it must have worked loose just prior, MAYBE i hadn`t noticed as I was “TOO BUSY HANGIN ON ALL DAY SAT”
Anyway, what glue do ya reckomend for NOT LETTING GO Like mine did:dry:
CHEERS ALLFebruary 3, 2009 at 1:56 am #120454Get the renthal glue, and combined with tie wire, you wont move the grip at all.
As far as seal savers go, I hear a whisper the Old Bulls store may have some rolls royce ones soon, keep your eyes glued to the storeFebruary 3, 2009 at 2:03 am #120472For grips try wrapping the ends of the bar in insulation tape then swishing some petrol around inside the grip. This will melt the grip slightly as it goes on and it will set hard as buggery. The tape allows you to get the grips off again afterwards with no problem. No tie wire required either. Simple, fast and very effective.

February 3, 2009 at 2:15 am #120455Cheers Boys,
Will keep an eye on the savers tip, that sounds like a good deal , Thanks rat
You too Ecks, might try the petrol idea seeing it`s the clutch side only that`s loose.
Plan to get back on the machine tomorrow to commute to work again:) Ankle is on the improve (slightly):unsure:February 3, 2009 at 2:45 am #120477
AnonymousA seal shouldn’t rush you too many clams Eagle. I noticed at Capertee that your grip was loose too but forgot to mention it. I only had about 6 hours to say something
February 3, 2009 at 3:22 am #120478Ya not the only one Eagle. My right fork seal is started leaking saturday. Im still undecided whether to take it back to the dealer and get fixed under warranty or just take them to Teknik for some special treatment.

AnonymousSpecial treatment
February 3, 2009 at 3:59 am #120482Yeah thats what im thinking Moto, Teknik did the forks on my old XR280 and it was easily the best money I have spent on any bike.

AnonymousI’ve just had my fork seals replaced and had the suspension set-up with a new spring on the back. I think when done correctly it’s the best mod you can do. Will find out if mine is any good soon
February 3, 2009 at 4:53 am #120484I am thinking about getting the XR’s suspension done, although it didn’t bottom out once on the weekend.Everyone says that it is the best thing you can do as far as mods go.
I am ashamed to say she still has the original oil from the factory in the front forks and probably the same settings on the clicker doo dads too.February 3, 2009 at 5:26 am #120456Just spoke to a dude in Newy that runs Newcastle Dirtbike Dismantlers, he says he does forks for $110 labour + OIL cost,,,,
Is that a fair deal ??? I have no idea:unsure:Also gave him some flyers that he`s gonna laminate & stick in window of shop:) Reckons he might copy some off & place em on the counter as well for dudes to pick up;)
I spoke to him & his wife prior to Hill End when I picked up spare chain link etc he was keen to hear how we went, so I dropped by today for a yarn:P
He is impressed with our setup, type of riding & general attitude to all in the sport:woohoo:If you guys are around this way pop in to his shop for a chat,OR a purchase of some parts or gear. He`s a nice bloke (like us):cheer:
February 3, 2009 at 5:31 am #120486Good price at that Eagle, not a fan of sliders in sandy gritty country as they can become good emery cloth quickly, and on blown seals…. isn’t that an eskimo pastime ???
Blue bloke
February 3, 2009 at 5:55 am #120491I too am not in favour of the seal savers. They never worked when I had them so I binned them!
Found that a does of silicon spray on the fork legs after a wash did wonders…haven’t had to change a seal since and prior to that I was doing them about every three months!
Oh and I should mention that silicon spray on the brke disc is NOT a good idea.

So in short…yes, that’s not a bad deal.
