Hi..
Just joined as it seems your site might be able to save me a lot of bother. I noticed you have a lot of rides around Capertee and am wondering if either;
a. Anyone has some Garmin compatible tracks they can share for getting from Sydney side of the Blue mountains to Capertee?
OR
b. If anyone might be doing a similar ride on about the 27 April?
I did a ride through there some years back and saw some spectacular scenery. But other than ducking of the highway at a servo, ending up in a fern gully and then below wallerawang (sp?) power station servo, I cant remember enough to do it without the GPS.
Cheers,
Newbie

April 18, 2011 at 6:39 pm #199713Thanks for that wonderful insight Wally.. Not to be rude but your remark aptly fits your name..
At any rate I have Topo Australia NZ V3 and Shonky Topo etc but my request is more along the lines that I am sure someone (if not many) of the members on this site would have some awesome tracks already saved for exactly that trip.
I was wanting to see if anyone felt like exporting these to share with me!

April 18, 2011 at 8:57 pm #199723With fairness to Wally whom is a hell of a nice guy Ryobi I know where he is coming from. People have been known wander in here gather up some routes and stuff people have got and disappear never to be seen again. It leaves a sour taste in your mouth, there are a lot of contributing members here that put the time in to learn and map the tracks and I am sure have them like me in a folder full of GPX files
I live in the mountains and know and ride the areas you are asking about real well. i I have researched the areas, pre ridden, explored, trail ridden and lead rides through there a fair few times now over the last 4 years. I am happy for you to join a ride when I lead the next out in those areas. I have recently just found while exploring a whole heap on new routes and tracks near Capertee when I spent a day out there riding around
Sorry mate Wally’s post may seem a little hard but you need to see both ways when a someones first post is like yours. These sites run because of contributing members and people share with one antother and help. You may have noticed no one answered your post but the other intro in the last 24 hrs has 7 or 8 replies
I am leading our Birthday ride out of Capertee for members

April 18, 2011 at 10:11 pm #199728I’ve got to agree , the work involved in finding and maintaining tracks makes them very personal and without meeting or riding with someone I would never give over the trails gps coordinates. It’s a give and take thing, I ride with guys up this way that spent years creating great riding and invited me along , I respect their trails by not carrying a gps and overriding the tracks. Also I show guys my tracks and expect the same in return.
The old bull rides are a great way to ride new territory and give other old bulls the same in return without having your trails over-ridden for the rest of the year. I have now been on old bull rides multiple times in some areas but wouldn’t dream of riding their trails without asking them first and I’d hope they would be able to ride with me anyway as theirs always a good laugh and beer to be had at the end of the day.Nick

April 19, 2011 at 1:34 am #199735Welcome to the site Ryobi.
You have struck a nerve here purely because we are passionate about our riding and our trails. Many new members have gone on OBT rides in their first week but asking for gps data on post number 1 is kinda like asking your date for a root before you have ordered the entree.
Hang in there mate and I am sure you will enjoy some great days out.STM

Try changing that quote to ” I was wanting to see if anyone felt like exploring these with me” and you may have more luck.
Cheers
