Hi Guys,
Very new around here and just got myself a bike :cheer: (finally). First time back on a bike for a quite a while. I picked myself up a 2002 Yamaha WR 250F. I need to get her registered, but she is currently set up for off road. Does anyone know anywhere that is sympathethic to our cause  and would be willing to give a blue slip whilst the bike is in off road mode?
I live in Sydney, in the St George / Sutherland area. Many Thanks
Look forward to seeing you out there

most of our sydneyan members are off on a ride this weekend, around 50 of them are heading to sofala and back. im sure on monday when they are back they will be able to steer you in the right direction.

im from melbourne, we dont have slips down here
May 6, 2010 at 12:35 am #177380Bump so this bloke can get some advice..
May 6, 2010 at 12:44 am #177376What do you mean by set up for off road Action? if it is just the tyres then there is no actual law regarding nobby tyres in Australia I have been told. If you mean all the lights and guards then I don’t think you will find too many inspectors willing to look the other way. Get some after market lights on it for rego, hopefully you are only missing dome blinkers.
May 6, 2010 at 4:15 am #177377I posed this same question in another forum.. The best advice given was to first visit the mechanic or shop that you will use, state your case and sort of sas them out on what they expect to pass you.. A mate got kicked back because he had a rip in his seat.. He just put duck tape over it and the bloke passed him next go..
Based on my experience, you will need lights, blinkers and mirrors at a minimum.. Chain guard and tires some over look..
If your tires say “Not For Highway Use” some wont pass even though as Jeffro said there is no law in NSW for tires.. “DOT Approved” and “Not For Highway Use” are for Sepo land.. I asked the question on tires and got 4 different answers..
May 6, 2010 at 1:50 pm #177378Cheers guys, I went and chatted to a mechanic mate of an OBT. He is sorting me out. Won’t be too long till I get to see you out there.
May 6, 2010 at 2:07 pm #178161My mate purchased a Yami TTR250 a few years ago from auction the bike had come off the back of a trailer and the handle bars and sub frame were rooted after a few new parts and some panel beating he had to get a blueslip from penrith RTA they checked out the lights horn and for oil leaks I think they were ok and not to bad.Just ring up and ask the RTA what the go is I hate going to the RTA they are nazis most of the time

May 7, 2010 at 4:42 am #178170Mick G put met onto Craig Macklin Motorcycles at Kirrawee. He was super helpful. I did think about going to see Fathead, but Mick G spoke volumes about Craig Macklin. Lets see the result. On a side note I’m thinking about putting my 17 year old on the WR 250 and maybe getting myself a DRZ 400, hopefully we will both be able to come out and ride with you guys. Its been a while so I might have to get a few hours under my belt before hitting the trails with you old pros. I saw some Vids and pics of the Sofala ride, looks like the guys had a hoot.
See you on the trails
ActionMay 7, 2010 at 4:49 am #178247I just got my 200 blueslipped. I had no indicators, mirrors, stand, speedo or DOT approved tyres. I did as mentioned above, called up, stated my case and he was very helpful.
This was in Newcastle though the point is if you ask around I’m sure you’ll find someone who will help.
