Two trail bike riders are dead and a third has serious injuries following a head-on crash in Tasmania’s northwest.

I hate to make comment on something when some of the facts are missing or even unclear, but if you knew your mates were coming the other way you’d be going pretty slow and cautious right? I guess that doesn’t stop the blokes that don’t know that you’re coming back at them from doing enough speed to cause death. Real tragedy when you hear these sorts of things and as much as you can’t focus solely on the negative possibilities I really think more people need to keep this type of collision in mind when they’re belting any trails that allow you to get up past 2nd gear.

RIP and yeah ride safe guys!

Am I missing something here or were these guys all on the same ride?

To ride ahead, pull a U turn and then rocket back at your mates is insane. If this is the case it is not bad luck it is sheer stupidity.

they die we get a reminder,, keep our eyes out for oncoming traffic,I agree that if old mate done a u turn and blasted back he`s a bit silly.
In my ride brief on saturday before we set out I included the possibility of meeting oncoming traffic due to the area being a popular 4×4 and pig hunting area, and yes we did see a 4×4 pig truck, luckily it was on a side trail just about to go on our track when i spotted it, 2 minutes later and I had 16 riders going one way and a 4×4 heading the other way, recipe for disaster.

In fairness we dont know what happen why he turned around and why he was in a hurry if he was, could be a reason that we will never know STM and could have been very important. Here is another thought, having lead the odd ride sometimes there is a hold up and you are forced to go back and find whats going on. The danger is not you so much going back but the others catching up? Maybe the guy going back was doing 20kph, the guy catching was doing 110kph, thats a 130kph impact

Its bad news all round thats the point not who is the blame

At the end of the day we may never know what really happened but what we do know is that they died doing something they loved and I hope the family that they leave behind can find some peace in that.

A timely reminder indeed but just remember this fellas, the bush is infinitely more safe than the roads, but wherever you ride, do so bearing in mind what may be around that next corner.

    Tragic news,
I was thinking similar TB,if the corner system broke down or someone could have been stuck/then unstuck and thought ill just catch up two scenarios that could come up.

I have had to go back once and evan though there were only two of us i was worried. Its hard to listen evan at slow speed.

I have had riders come in on a side track before, after i had gone past and they rode through our group!! If i had seen them i would have stopped and re grouped. When you ride trails you have to expect traffic coming at you, we all push the envelope sometimes and no matter how careful we are accidents happen. All we can do is look out for each other but also for ourselves. RIP
