OK so after 12 months and way too many get offs my cheap fox pressure suit type body armour is pretty shagged and the bride has promised to buy me some new gear for my fast approaching 50th. Being a lover of tight singles, I would prefer something with a bit more chest and abdo protection from trailside sticks that occasionally want to impale me but I also need to keep to a reasonable budget. (The bride values my head at about $300 going on the helmet I was allowed to buy when I stuffed my last one).
Many years ago I used the plastic chest shoulder roost type guards which i found alright but no good for elbows and kidneys and I figure with increasing age the body is getting more loose bits so needs as much support as possible. So what recomendations do people have.

its what you find comfortable snow , you have to wear it for long stints as you know , I was lucky enough to be in sydney for work at the time and i went down to a bike shop that had all the body armour you could get and tried them all on to find a comfortable one , for me it was the alpine star bionic 2 jacket its comfortable and very protective it is a bit dearer i have seen it for $360 but i got mine for $310 but my advice is get and try some on

The SixSixOne pressure suit is well priced and well made. It should definitely be on your short list.

i use the zac speed and all though it has not got great protection compaired to these ugly suits i love the fact that i could fill the hydropack it comes with (3L) and tools in the back pack that is connected to it and you just don’t feel the weight at all.

You need to find one that stops roost hitting you in the collarbones man that hurts .

    Ditto.

Plus I wear a jacket. It has some elbow padding and it lessens the scrub bitch slapping you in the tight stuff ;)

    snowy09 me old,

I have had a set of Dainese Body armour for a lot of years and Paid $450.00.New. These were the best gear at the time and extremly comfortable. Also the cheap brands were not around then. They have held my body together countless times and through a few big crashes as well. I once slid down the road with my XR400 on top of me after hitting a roo at 100Km/Hr and didn’t have a scratch where this body armour protected me. The cheap knee guards didn’t hold up though. This gear is getting old though and needs replacing, There are some new ones out from Accerbis that look good also. I think Fracers at Newcastle have them or the MX1 site.

Coming from the king of roosting Im suprised you know what goes on behind you!

STM the six six ones I have seen dont appear to offer much resistance to trailside sticks that want to impale you. I was looking for something with a bit more plastic / armour down the front.

check the link above for $135 this looks a good deal, if you need more armour than this Id go for the 44 gallon drum
