Had a top ride today around the local trails with no major issues other than on one section a stone got stuck in my brake pedal holding it on and causing me to have a near ‘ over the hangers ‘ episode at the next erosion mound. I removed the stone but had no rear brake until everything had cooled then it returned. I had boiled the fluid which now needs replacing ( I’m pretty sure ?)
Is their anything else within the brake caliper I should check and what brake fluids are people using or are they all the same ??

    Thanks

Just bleed it using a quality fluid as they aren’t all the same a large syringe from you local vet will make it a very fast and easy process. Small length of hose is also required.

I like the Motul fluid, I also have a fluid that I got of lefty and have used it in the Tenere with success. Make sure you use the correct DOT fluid for your bike, check your manual.

Replacing the fluid should be done at least every 12 months and more often if you ride a lot. Check for heat related damage when you pull the pads out, they will need replacing as well really

Cooked fluid should be replaced. Just did bith ends of my orangahundy on saturday. Dark grey fluid ooops. Did clutch too. Katos are finicky to bleed there is a trick.
I have used Castrol Super DOT4 in cars and bikes for years without issue (buy at SCA)

DOT4 is normally fine but you can use DOT5.1 if you want a higher boiling point. Be careful not to get the oil anywhere it shouldn’t be as it’s pretty corrosive.

Make sure too that you keep the lid on the fluid as it is hydroscopic and will absorb moisture into it.

(Bugger me, it almost sounds like I know what I am on about :D )
