    Heya Fellow Riders :)

Just booked the bike in for a service at HORNSBY PROCYCLES.

I regularly change the oil every 500-800kms and do the EASIER mainternance jobs myself. Since owning the bike it has never had a proper look over. Is it sensible to hand it over to the experts? Are Hornsby Procycles reliable? I manily want them to check the Fork seals, valves etc. Can you suggest anything else they/myself may need to look for?

The bike has done approx 2,800 Kms.

    Cheers, Freeze :)

    Freeze rides an 03 WR250.

Freeze, are you saying you do the regular oil changes yourself? Valves are very easy to check yourself but I’d recommend you ask them if you can watch over their shoulder so you learn to do it yourself. Some mechanics might get precious about that but checking valve clearance can be done in the time it takes to load the bike on a trailer so they should understand it’s not worth you bringing it in everytime you want to check them.

If it hasn’t had a look over it might be worth your while though. What needs checking on the fork seals? I thought they either seal or leak and you’d know which based on looking at the forks? Do you know how to check your bearings? Linkage? Engine mounts. Are your brakes spongey/need bleeding? is your oil clean when you drop it? Are you using oil or blowing smoke?

Ollie might be able to comment on Hornsby procycles, if he doesn’t see this maybe PM him.

    Cheers.

Linkage and steering head bearings pack plenty of grease in em.

Other than that if it ain’t broke!!!

I have heard that when your valves are out that the bike will become progressively harder to start, if yours is still starting fine then maybe they don’t need checking.

    Check your spokes too.

    Cheers
    Chris.

Yip I do the Oil changes myself Austblue. Valves have never been looked at. I mentioned my forks because there seems to be a minor leak in them… After recent rides dirt is stuck to the bottom of the forks and when I run my finger over them it is wet and has that oily texture to it

Uncle Fester mentions Head stock bearings, are they the same as what Chris72A calls Steering Heads?? As there is a fair build up of grease there.

How does one check the Linkage??

Brakes are fine. I bleed them maybe 300kms ago.

Maybe I should take Chris72A advice, with if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Although as mentioned in my first Post, It has never had a proper looking over. mmm……… :S :S :S :S

Mate if you’re worried about it then you might want to pay for the piece of mind!

Freeze, you don’t state if the susension has been serviced in the 7 years since the bike was new. If not I would get the forks and shock serviced. These both also have oil that would need changing after such a period of time.

I’ll put an unashamed plug in here for Techniks. Your local shop may be more than up to the tasks of servicing the suspension but if you want to send them to the experts, Techniks are highly recomended and look after OB members

Ps, I have no affiliation to Techniks other then I have had 2 bikes done by them in the past and love their work.

Heya Trailboss, Sorry for the delay, Internet is so slow at my place its quicker to mail you a response via Aust Post   Work is for surfing the net isn’t?? :P
Mate that is more than kind of you. I would love to learn how to do services myself and learn more about the mechanics of my bike. I think for this time I will empty my pockets to Procycles   I will just tell them there is pretty much nothing wrong with the bike so im not expecting to be hit up for much. I just really want them to check a few little things and clean her up around the edges. Hopefully in the not so distant future I can still take you up on the offer ;)

    Cheers, Freeze

    mainjet from procycles $23.50

    mainjet from Ballards $8

    your choice

suspension linkages on the WR are very susceptible to corrosion and need checking and regreasing especially the needle thrust bearings.

I would take up TB’s generous offer freeze and learn as you go ;)
