your right TB it is his choice and you have to be happy with it because lets face it how long has Aaron owned his current yamaha?
but he has put this up on oldbulls to get some opinions for him to make his own decisionsTrailboss wrote:Forget what others think Aaron,TB

Yeah that’s right, I guess I should have worded it a little better like ” listen to others opinions maybe but make your own” Oh and ride as many different bikes as you can!

August 15, 2011 at 2:18 pm #207082You should get a bike that best suits your needs and ride as many as possible like TB said. I like the bigger bikes because i like a bit of grunt and they are nice and playful but I know i can’t ride em as fast as a 250 in the tight stuffB) Overall they suit me though. I weigh over hundred kilos also. As for brands I reckon they are all very good these days except for chinese ones. You’ve got me dreamin about new bikes now:woohoo:
Catch ya’s on the trails.

August 15, 2011 at 2:22 pm #207118Ive been trying to work out how to catch Galey in tbe tight stuff and am willing to change brands too. Ive been thinking Honda for its towing capacity. Is a CR500 with a steering dampner a good choice?
August 15, 2011 at 2:23 pm #207119id say weigh the pros &cons upand make your own decisions,
i agree to go out and ride as many bikes as you can but there might be someones opinion that is outside of the way Aaron has been thinking that might give him a good idea on his next choice of bike
, i thought that was the whole idea of these sites when you post a question like these upAugust 15, 2011 at 2:25 pm #207120yeah great…… you paid up your hospital cover

August 15, 2011 at 2:48 pm #207083I’ve been a Honda man since I started riding bikes 40 + years ago. Wouldn’t entertain anything else until recently. I got rid of my 2001 trusty and bullet proof XR400 and purchased a brand new DRZ 400. I didn’t buy it because it was a Suzuki, I did however buy it for the following reasons.
1. Easy to maintain
2. Lengthy service intervals (a part from oils and filters etc)
3. The power comparison
4. The bikes weight
5. It has an electric leg
6. Easy to ride
6. MOST IMPORTANT TO ME The advice I received on this site.Take it all in then go ride them all.

August 15, 2011 at 2:56 pm #207123Just get a 250 Aaron. You know you want too. It’s the best of both worlds. When you beat a bigger bike it’s boasting time and when they beat you you can blame it on not enough cubes. Your ability will never be in question. The best part about a 250 is you get to wring your bikes neck and feel good about it. It’s what they are designed to do.
August 15, 2011 at 3:17 pm #207084Thank you all for your comments!
When I said not to mention brand names I did not want to get people saying” I bought brand X and they are crap.”As it would have got out of control and not helped me.
Put it this way. If you were a Holden fan would you buy a ford! I can change my riding style to suit a 250. But changing brands spooks me the most.
Yes I have ridden Bollocks 250 and it did seem tame but that was because I was riding it like I would a 450. I have ridden the highly modded 290 wr and it was great but it was not a 250. Ian the 2T idea would be cool but I think I would have to go to a 150 2T to achieve the power reduction I am talking about. I Don’t want to mod a 250 4T power wise at all. No loud pipe. Hows the serenity!!!!August 15, 2011 at 4:35 pm #207124I dont give a flyying bat poo what you buy,, just get it before next thursday morning you peanut.
my 5 cents worth.

August 15, 2011 at 5:00 pm #207085Dealer loyalty and convenience is more important to me.If my favourite shop changed brands may do the same cause i like the service. If you change bikes every 2 years it wouldn’t matter though, just swap back if you don’t like the dark side.
Admittedly i haven’t owned heaps of bikes like some blokes so can only make a few comparo’s.But my thoughts have been straying in few directions lately brand wise,as some features just standout, but dealer changing ?????
August 15, 2011 at 5:24 pm #207086I’ve had 4 different brands in the last 4 years. There is only 1 brand that I kind of reget owning and it was more to do with the importer and warranty issues than the bike itself.
Have a ride on bike that you would like to own if you can.
The 250 4t would be a good bike for you as last time I saw you ride you were jumping up the nasty stuff and just mucking around all sorts of terrain. The smaller bore and lighter felling bikes are perfect for that. Most 250Fs need to breath better to get the good power out of them. But then you have the noise issue.
I would look at the 250 2T as well. They are a lot more mangable than the 300. I had a 250 2t for a couple of months and it was a great bike for the tight stuff and flowing single. Hills were a bit tricker but that was more riding style than bike related.
It is scary changing brands if you have only ever had the one. But if you find a good dealer then your half way there.
Good luck mate.
August 15, 2011 at 5:34 pm #207087Whats your next brand Mal ???? #1 obscure bike owner.

The Jotagas maybe worth a look when/if they make to Oz.
Ossa trials bike maybe.
Always thinking and looking mate.
Hard to go past what I’m riding now though. :woohoo:
