OK. So we have been joining the Breakaway group of riders for the last bunch of years doing a reunion ride once a year.

When I joined them I was a youngster taken under the wing, amused at the antics and frivolity at what went on when some of the guys only got to ride once a year. Yes and the same gear came out from the good old days. Rossi Boots, Leather race gear and egos to suit. These days the group has more of the up and coming offspring from the gentlemen folk and not as many old dude originals are hitting the singles. The last couple of years the bunch branched out to a Road Ride, Enduro loops and Tryhard, Mickp, Steve, Lotsa and myself were led by Mark1957 on a Adv Ride.

We set out of Bulahdelah went through Wang Walk Forrest , the Glen Nature Reserve, Avon & Chichester State Forrest and cruised down into Dungog to have lunch at I think was the Bank Hotel.

The lunch was almost as good as the defrosting warm glow of the sun as we soaked it up having our fill of burgers chips & beverages.

Mark had done well for us to get his far with no major moments and as always threw in a few more roads we hadn’t seen before. Next we cut back from Dungog and headed up Black Camp Rd through Cambra and round to Stroud. We only skimmed through town and went straight into the Myal River Forrest. The trails were definitely wetter on this side and we were up for a little more action. Mark led us down this top little single that weaved down and across a creek. The steam was just rising as we headed up the joining hill, we were met by a small tree down. Yes it was getting slippery for the bigger bikes and we found a way round and if you got stuck in the wrong rut the rocks punished you with the moss covered slipperyness even harder to stand on. The clutch on a couple of Dr’s took some punishment but we all made it. From there it was starting to get late and we made it back to Bulahdelah just on dark.
Oh no but the day wasn’t over yet. Joe and I had ridden up on the Friday night and as we stood in parking area zipping liners in the jackets & putting on all of the warm gear, we decided to do as we said we would and take a few dirt roads instead of the dreaded Pacific all the way home. We took Old Inn Rd to Booral Rd. The twisty’s in the dark and wet are fun to say the least. Next was Nugera Lane and the Branch. It was dark and getting foggy in places. Then the moon came out in all of its full glory. We stopped for a few pics and then dogged some cow’s and wildlife and decided to head for home.
