What do you base you opinion on? Your experience with using Bridgestone tyres? Your years of riding out here in Australia’s many conditions? Your intermit knowledge of the ED78 and its multi compound construction? Your knowledge of it history and use in the Baja 1000 on big bore motorcycles? :laugh:Wish you had told me before I bought it, because I can tick some of the above boxes and I think it will go alright but have to try it to be sure, my opinion of it is worth nothing till I test it

Please note the words I used. Did I say in my experience? No. Did I see based on historical evidence? No. To answer your question directly I haven’t based my opinion on anything. I clearly state that in my first post ‘I have a feeling‘.
I would expect it to be an amazing tyre at the price they charge for one. It should have excellent levels on grip and wear. What I said is that I reckon it won’t be worth paying the extra money for the additional benefit (if any) that you get from it.
I’m sure with all your years of experience that we all constantly hear about and your supreme knowledge of dirtbike history that my comment will be made to look fool hardy and stupid when this tyre performs so well in the conditions it’s used in that you can honeslty say that it’s ‘worth the money‘ (contrary to my statement) and this is proven by the fact that you decide to fit and run one every ride
May 14, 2009 at 11:26 pm #132451Is this theread going to go on forever before we hear what its like??? Are you going to fit it already and get out and see what it’s like??..The suspense sucks…..I wanna know…(reason being i just fronted for a 606 dun. and i do believe it SUCKS! Grip is not something I’d mention in the same sentence with said tyre unless it was portraying the absolute lack of):S

I dont need to comment for that to happen
Look as per our recent discussion on the phone I buy / try different tyres for different conditions, I will see how this performs in the long distance mixed terrain riding that I bought it for  , i wouldnt use it in the Watagans for a day I would use a S12
PPE stands for piss pulling exercise Moto

That’s great, it really is, but I only said I have a feeling it won’t be worth the money, you were the ons that has brought about this digreassion of riding type, terrain, history, my experience and foundations for my opinion.
PPE stands for piss pulling exercise Moto. Just when I think you can’t possibly impress me anmore…..TB
Love ya big guy
May 14, 2009 at 11:57 pm #134327Bridgestone make good roadbike tyres and they’re expensive too.
I believe that tyre choice can be very subjective on off-road vehicles riding style and power delivery alone can make a mockery out of a otherwise well meant recommendation. Personally I like a tyre I can “feel” and that will slide when asked to and tolerate really low pressure at other times to give me a footprint.
This is why I prefer the Dunlops. But will read TBs’ finding with interest even though essentially his bike is the other end of the spectrum from mine in off-road design criteria.
May 15, 2009 at 12:19 am #134329Hey,
I usually ride with ED11 Front and an IRC VE33 Rear Heavy Duty Tubes I get great life out of them and have gotten everywhere I’ve aimed the bike and never had a puncture with that combination (I know I’m gona regret saying that… Touch wood or the next tree I hit):S
At the moment trying the IRC iX-07S front amd Metzler MC4 Rear great tyres just piss poor wear especially from the MC4. Definally a small bore tyre.
Keen to see how the ED78 goes but the VE33 is hard to beat for an all rounder.
May 15, 2009 at 12:36 pm #132453Hi All,
i did not want to start a whole new thread.
i went to the local shop just to see what they had to offer for my 640
they recommended the dunlop 606 (something) looked the goods, but?
they wanted $135 fr , $145 r:unsure: + fitting
seems like a bit over inflated if you ask me.
however i just wanted people’s experience, if any with the dunlop 606.
May 17, 2009 at 12:23 am #134488Well the tyre has done 100kms so far, the grip I was expecting to be about 4 to 5 out of 10, is to my surprise I reckon a 7 to 8 out of 10 and the wear is incredible. Yesterday we covered some rocky sections and a fair amount of hard pack and I was on it at time making sure my rims are able to do the job and the tyre is looking like this
Considering the some tyres I have only got 400kms out of its looking good I checked the air pressure in it when I got home and it had 10psi in it I will keep running that as it has very strong / thick case construction / punture resistance and the pressure works well
Its early days but we will see

May 18, 2009 at 1:20 am #134545What did you pay for the ED78 TB?
I have a new Dunlop 756 on – well it was new before last weekend. The rocks at Catombal knocked it around pretty well. 150km of that place is equivalent to 300km of riding most other places I think! Not unimpressed with the grip or wear, but I stand by my previous assertion that the best rear tyre I have ever had was the Maxxis IT on my DRZ400.
The previous rear tyre on my bike was a Dunlop 745. That was also OK, both for wear and grip. They were out of stock when I went back in to replace it so I ended up with the 756.
I hate the tyre debate, I think I’ll just get a Maxxis again and be done with it!

The ED78 has thicker side walls etc that I like as I hate breakdowns / flat tyres etc on the trails
Its early days yet and if I dont try I dont know I can have opinion after I try something
I am really impressed at this stage, but that can change
