I went for a ride in the Wattagan’s last weekend with the Trailmates guys and jammed my foot between the foot peg and a tree about an hour into the ride. I pulled over thinking the worst but as the pain subsided decided to keep on riding. Rode on for anther 2 or 3 hours with quite a bit of pain whenever I put the foot down so tried as much as possible to keep it on the pegs which may or may not have helped my riding  .
Anyway went home and had a shower then sat up at the hospital for 4 hours waiting to see a doc, in the mean time they sent me for xrays and the radiographer comes out and says there is a broken bone. About 7.30 that night i finally get in to the doctors after getting there just befor 4.00 and he says no break, only soft tissue damage. I say that the radiographer said there was a break and pointed on my foot where he had shown me it was. Doc goes back and has another look at the film and says there is a line there but it isn’t a break. I tell him I am off to Indonesia for awhile and says thats fine just do the old RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression bandage and Elevate for those that don’t know.
Anway after hobbling around on it for a week I get a phone call this morning from the doctor saying he has read the radiography report and there is a broken bone in my foot and he would like me to come in today so he can fit a brace. “A bit far to travel” I say, “where are you?” he says, “8500km away in Indonesia” I say, “oh” he says “when are you back?”.
Bottom line is there will be no riding for me for a while, won’t be too bad I guess, it’s really only the time between Chrissy and New year that I will miss out on as I will be back here in Indo for all of January.
Here is the foot last Sunday morning

AnonymousDoesn’t sound like fun mate, it’s pretty bad hey can’t tell you haven’t a broken foot when he has had the chance to look at the radiograph’s.

AnonymousI’ve actually heard of this same situation occuring a lot. Someone has been told they haven’t broken anything only to find out later that it is actually broken. Maybe sometimes it is just not very clear with the swelling and everything.
Hope it gets better soon Jeffro.
December 14, 2009 at 2:09 am #165181Man Iam so sorry to hear about your foot mate
I have just recovered from my foot infection spent many hours at doctors and hospital but the bottom line is don’t leave things until its to late get well soon
December 14, 2009 at 3:45 am #165184Suck it up Jeffro
I’m surprised you only rode for 2 or 3 hours more after the incident
Just joking mate
Young Tims breaks were also first diagnosed as no break situations but after some indecision another Doc had a look at the X-Rays and pointed out fractures in both his ankle and kneecap
I bet your doing it tough at the moment with work and all
Cheers mate
MurphDecember 14, 2009 at 3:57 am #165187I injured my foot last year and after several Xrays and a $345 MRI scan and 4 weeks in plaster the best they could come up with was that I had a Probable fracture. Bastard still hurts now, a year later.

I had Fox boots on when I injured mine.
December 14, 2009 at 4:54 am #165194Alpine stars Corey, not cheap ones either at around $500. I don’t think it would have mattered which boots I was wearing though, I was riding single track and bounced of course where my foot got jammed between the footpeg and a tree or stunp or something causing my foot to bend under, I also have bruising to the ankle. The boots themselves don’t have any damage.
December 14, 2009 at 5:18 am #165195Sorry to Hear Jeffro, I don’t think the misdiagnosis is a health system issue, more a physicians lack of training or something, there must be a propensity for some medicos to think they have better X-ray eyes than the multi-million dollar piece of science, cause this happens all the time, operator says yes it’s broken, Diktor says no, then later you find out it is/was.

December 14, 2009 at 5:50 am #165201Geez mate thats tough luck,
can I have your bike :woohoo:
speedy recovery dude
Boony
December 14, 2009 at 6:21 am #165204You wouldn’t want my bike at the moment Boony, she was running like a pig by the end of the ride coughing and misfiring and not wanting to start. As we were heading back to the camping area it started to come good so I just kept going while the going was good as I had ridden there in the first place but then when I stopped to refuel the trouble started again. I think it was to do with the float level or dirt in the jets. I stopped at one point on the way out and gave the carby a few taps and that’s when it started to go ok, but then when I came out after paying for fuel, the fuel was running out the overflow. I gave it a few taps again but it didn’t stop so I just road it down the freeway like that. Got it home and put it the shed, had a quick shower and straight to the hospital, I gave it a quick wash on Monday before I left for the airport but she still needs a good clean inside and out I think.
But you can have it to clean up and fix for me in the mean time if you like. :woohoo:
