Murph, Tim, Diddle, White Rocket/AlleyCat/Pussy, Axel and “welcome to the jungle” Scott.
Young Scott bowed out early, foreseeing the future I think. A smart move as things got rather rough from then on.
Great ride again, worth the drive anytime. If there are any old bulls out there thinking their usual rides are getting ho-hum boring I’m sure the Murph’s can host a ride to cater for you. Bring a pipe guard and lots of red lollies.
I must say the photos are nearly showing what it was actually like for once (steepness/difficulty), especially the last lot of the south end hill climb. That track would be tough when your fresh let alone hitting it at around hour 6 of riding that day. Yes you read right. I had to count that on my sore fingers and it’s true.
Saturday pretty much 2 full tanks of fuel then we did another full tank the next day.
Welcome back DIddel. 2nd ride since his time off the bike and I’m sure he would have felt sore Sunday. I think we all took a little pleasure in watching him sweat it out (especially in that pressure cooker jacket he wears).

A more indepth look into the weekend that was.
The weekend started with the Dubbo boys arriving around 10:30 Friday night. Locked the bikes away and showed Axel and Rocket their accomadation and then it was back to bed for me.
Saturday dawned with blue skies which was a long way different from the last time Axel came up our way. Breakfast was had and we geared up. Scottyalt showed up and at 9:10 we ran into Diddel in the driveway. He had to get more fuel so we met him at Deadhorse a few kms into the ride. The step up in Tims track was not done by the boys and understandibly so as it would have been a long way to come for a 15 minute ride if things turned to shite. Met up with Diddel and off we rode through the Awaba tunnel and onto a single with a bit of a hill at the end. Scottyalt was starting to struggle and at the top another steppy hill he decided to pull the pin and he rode the black top home.
Out towards Wakey we did K9 single and ran into Pete the Wolfs gang at the other end. Stopped for a quick G-day and knowing how much we were up for gathered the boys and headed for Rocky Downhill single. Did some fun singles and then we were at our first real test. I rearanged the logs at the step and one by one the boys hit the QGT hill with varying degrees of success. I think Axel was the only one who made it without opting for the chicken track just after the step up. I embarrassed myself by stalling at the very top. Cruised the rest of the hill and linked a few singles and little tests along the ridge back to Razorback. Nobody dropped off the front and I nearly took out Axel who descended just to the right of me only to vere left where I had already committed to the drop. He never saw me but I was looking straight down on top of him with teeth clenched ready for impact. All good as we never collided.
Lunch at the Gap after one more downhill and a bit of a play in the mud at the bottom. Fueled up we were off around Southside and up to Amazon. We did stage 1 and I remember Rocket asking me “was that it?”. Stage 2 and then Stage 3 sorted everybody out. Tim went first so he helped Rocket in a couple of places near the top of Stage 3. Everyone struggled here and looking down we saw Diddel dissapear over the edge of the track. To his credit he managed to drag the 250 back on line by himself. I think Tim, Axel and myself got through unassisted and maybe Diddel but he did it without style. Rode up past the cliffs and some had a bit of trouble at the slippery log slot. Then up another slab and tricky bit to finish with a neat single to the top.
From here we headed South to Slippery Rock and Tim showed off his new found hill which was a pearler. It had all of the ingridients of a classic with rock steps, slabs and steep tree rooted sections.
Athe top we found Rope Rd and followed it to the valley floor. Many bog holes were navigated and I took the wrong way a couple of times only to have the rest of the pack take the easier option and go past.
Crossed the logs at the creek and then it was on. Tim, Diddel and I had some idea what we were in for. I thought we would have to turn around when we came across a huge fallen tree but we managed to get through where it had smashed to pieces.
The hill became serious and Tim took the lead. Bloody hard yakka for the next hour or so. The hill was wet and greasy in places and it took its toll on all of us. A memorable awkward spill by Rocket on a slippery steep rock near the top had me worried for his left leg. It seemed to twist beyond where it should of but he was OK and we hit a few more tricky steps to top out at a main dirt track. Travelled home using mostly easy tracks as I was buggered and arrived home at 5:30.
Bloody great day finished off with a big feed of chinese and bed early.
    Cheers
    Murph

    Love the pics.

How do they stop those 300’s steaming ,constantly riding that slow gnarly stuff? And dont say ride it faster!

Well said Murph. Great memory for it. Was great to see the tracks again in their “dry” state, all the creeks and rivers from last time we no where to be seen thank goodness.
That Razorback drop off sure did nearly end up in tears. Didn’t realise you were going for it. I had the line and was further down the hill! :D
I was really trying to conserve energy pretty much the whole day, especially when I heard the word Amazon. There surely are some savage rocks to get over/around. What I think makes it most tricky is the leaves/soil on the rocks. Very slippery.
I think Rocket/Al-leycat found the reduced weight of the 300 beneficial on these hill climbs. That photo of him having a little sleep at the top was a funny reminder: “Hey Tim can you lift the bike off my leg”
For anyone wanting to give it a goo, don’t go last. You don’t get a rest eh Diddel.
Actually the logs across the creek caught out Al big time, you missed that. He got a little chicken of the throttle and didn’t quite make it. Kissed the front guard.
Another memorable quote from Tim’s new hill from Al: “We won’t get up that. There’s no way” Well we did. After a highside (murph) , cross ruts (all), near flip up against the bank (murph), smashing family jewels (me), 180 lowsides on the rock faces (Al and me). Tim always made it look easy but I’m sure he must have been fatigued somewhat, even just a little?
Anyway, all in all a big day. Challenging and long.

Good question. I don’t think any of us did. I had some bubbles start emerging on Amazon. The amber light on my instruments was on that whole time around 100C+. I just shut her down after every short section and watched the next person have a go. Same went for the Rope Rd hill. If we tried to keep going for it without stopping they would have popped – absolute guarantee. Mind you the stopping was to get some breath back not just for the bike’s sake. :)
