Garry I think Nick is saying you have prepared your bike, I can vouch for that but that’s not the end of it. It still needs checking over on the ride as things come loose.
You said you aren’t a mechanic which is fine and why I am happy to help I think Nick is only offering advice, good advice. I am sure on the ride if you need advice or help he would be one of the first to chip in. There has been no short cuts on the preparation of your bike we know that but things go wrong which is no bodies fault certainly not mine

We all need from time to time read the thread on the written word in the Bullpit

It’s my ride I don’t give a rats arse who is invited or not if the thread is going to continue like this I will go for a ride by myself :P it wasn’t like this last year

It ends here everyone, now let’s get on with it :)

Interesting theory indeed however, that’s the way it is for me. I am not a M/C mechanic and that’s why I rely on others to make sure that my machine is up to scratch. If that’s not good enough, well I’m sorry. I have had all the nessesary parts replaced and work done. There is F%^K all else I can or am prepared to do to get the bike any better than what it is. So in sumation if what I have done to date doesn’t fit with your Nazi regime, I have 1 x 2009 DRZ 400E for sale in my eyes ready for the Corner.
Have a good trip and send me a post card
I do recall being invited on this trip and if you have any doubts about the worthiness of my DR,

    Nazi Regime !!!!!! ?????? WTF

I am repeating advice I was given about checking over your bike daily to avoid problems. I’m not a mechanic either Gaz but I try to take on board advice from them.

I really don’t care what other people do I was just trying to help save a drama !

I don’t think it’s anything near a Nazi regime, Preventitive maintenance is a massive part of mine and Gregs industry, and we both see first hand what happens if things get over looked!!
I know i have a brand new bike, but it’s getting the same treatment as everyone else’s, it’s not having to do it before the ride, it’s doing it now and having a ripper of a time trouble free to Camerons and back!!! :woohoo:

    My two cents

    Dejay!!!!!!!!!

Nick, in what way would you like confirmation the work has been carried out.

    Just a yep or photos?

I think Mickp has got more to worry about me than me worrying about him. Every time I walk into his garage the bike is apart.

Yeh, my wife ventured into the garage the other day (she must have been bored) and said didn’t you do all that work on yer bike last year??? yep I said , but we are a long way from home on the trip and far from help a lot of the time and I wanna try and make sure everything is OK since the bike has done 10,000k’s since last years ride. She turned around and went back in the house

    Problems I have found:
rusty water in double sealed front wheel bearings that I packed with grease
crack in pannier frame – repaired and rack strengthened (jumping windrows fully loaded probably didn’t help)
rear shock bottom heim joint (bearing) stuffed – waiting on new one (last one KTM had in stock)

She should be back together in a few days and ready to go

I’d forgotten about that until you brought that up Boulder.

“It’ll only be a sun shower or liquid sunshine”

We wouldn’t have had the experience that we did last year without the changes of plan. One of the best tracks we rode, we wouldn’t have, if we hadn’t been deverted by weather. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.

As long as the pub we get stuck in has Coopers Pale, I’ll be happy.

    and Turkey

On the way back from last weekends ride DY4 asked me a out using filter skins on this ride and I said last year I rotated 2 skins.
He gave me a top tip to use pool skimmer filter socks fr Bunnings instead , same material , 1/5 th of the price !!
Hope the tips not too late to save anyone thinking of using them on this ride !!

    Cheers DY ;)
