I have always had it only “penciled in” untill I could make a firm decision.
August 17, 2010 at 5:20 am #186086Yes mate I know was only passing comment, you have done nothing wrong and no one is picking on you mate
So then there was 10, Bollocks the master chef was going to inspect the chuck wagon this arvo I think.
I got my gas bottle, GPS bracket (for the new Garmin I purchased) , cigarette power plugs and a new all metal switch with water proof cover for the grip heaters

August 17, 2010 at 6:52 am #186087Do you think grip heaters would be useful on this ride ?

Seriously I have them on my bike but if I didnt I wouldnt fit them for this ride  I only ever really use them on really cold winter morning rides
I got mine from Sutto’s were really cheap and easy to fit, just pay particular attention to how and where you mount the resistor. I have noticed a few people have had problems with the resistor or resistors ends breaking. Take the time mount it properly and its happy days. Oh yeah also put a couple of layers of heat shrink on the left side bar, heat shrink it on nice and tight, then stick the grip heater pad on and then the grip. This insulates the metal bar and the grip will operate at the same temperature as the throttle heated grip which is insulated by plastic throttle tube
Hope that makes sense

I’ve got these on my & the GF’s Roadies
http://www.symtec-inc.com/MOTORCYCLE-GRIP-WARMER-KITS_c_36.html
I think they are much better than any locally sourced heater elements
No Resistor
Elements are different for the throttle & clutch side, makes up for the heat sink of the bar without the throttle for insulation.I’ve got heatshrink under the clutch side & it is hotter than the throttle side now.
They work, 2 weeks in Tasmania in the rain was a good test
Buy a couple of sets & combine shipping & they are great value
August 17, 2010 at 9:24 am #186101When I lived in the uk I rode to work every day regardless of weather for years and the only bikes with heated grips were the big BMWs. This was 1987 though and if I’ve got any spare cash left before the ride i might just treat myself.

August 19, 2010 at 9:01 am #186141The air mattress I am taking on this ride arrived today and I am more than happy,
it compresses down to 63mm across and 300mm long and weighs 550g, it has 4 chambers to stop cold from the ground rising and your body heat dissipating.
Neat bit of gear
