Hey Scott which bike you taking? XR600 perhaps?
July 16, 2010 at 1:43 am #183869I am about to fly to Brisbane and ride home a Cagiva Navigator, if it looks OK I reckon I will ride it. Failing that I was going on the mighty vstrom….unless advised otherwise. The XR is marginally registered at the moment, so I will leave it as my last option. But I will need to decide soon so I can get my preparation right.

Quote:RE tyres
Don’t know if it is of any interest to you guys. But when i have done my trips in the past I have used Dunlop 606’s.(We also used them in the Condo 750) Value for money they are great get an easy 5000km out of a rear on a transalp with approx 50/50 dirt and tar. Only one puncture and no tyre could have prevented that from happening.
Re Tubes The only let down with alot of the ADV style bikes is they run a 17″ rear and 17″ HD tubes are sometimes hard to source. 18″ HD tubes work fine on a 17″ rim.bb
Got a 606 on the rear of the Tenere now its rooted and done just under 4000km been ok will tyr a 608 instaed I think
Regarding HD 17 inch tubes no problem, rang Mal @ Sutto’s Tuesday they rang Thursday on the bench for pick up

Now that we will have a support vehicle are we going to shorten the fuel legs some? Are we still going to need 300+ K tanks?
Yes Krusty still bring a bike that will do 300 plus to a tank

Don’t forget when Brad from Tekniks rings to make mention that you will run the tank to Cameron’s and across Australia mate and use the standard the rest of the time
  I just realised this trip has a pommy and a sepo on it. Sounds like the making of a joke

I have looked into the luggage loops TB and am still undecieded, the giant loop range has a small 10 ltr, then a 30 ltr and a 50 ltr. This range is quite expensive but looks to be excellant gear.
Wolfman make a saddlebag which needs no racks and holds 18 ltr , this seems to be a better size and still good quality, with a reasonable price tag. The adventure moto site has heaps of info on all these bags. Not sure if they are all avalible through Suttos, I was going to call them when I decided.
I have just ordered a Kriega hydro 3 ltr backpack with a 10 ltr add-on which can be either attached to the backpack or used as a tail pack. This is also good quality gear and I figured with the wolfman saddlebag should be ample storage.
