October 4, 2010 at 6:28 am #188282Hi all
I had a chat with TB about this today and he agrees that it would be a good idea to each carry a list of phone numbers in our backpacks ie. Home, wife, parents, close friend and local doctor.( solicitor)
I also thought it could be good if we each had the other riders mobile numbers and home numbers on that same list , just in case.
I will pm mine to the other riders if all agree this is a good idea and we should all pm each other with the same.Let me know your thoughts ?
October 4, 2010 at 6:35 am #182243That sounds like an excellent idea to me mate (if I was going that is exactly what I would do, I already have a similar list in my Bumbag permanently already)
Sort of extra insurance on top of the I.C.E Tag system for when there is no PC available etc

Sounds like a good idea Nick.
Might be best if we have one person collate all the numbers and they could then pm all the guys going. On another note regarding GPS mounting, I had my Garmin 60CSX on a Garmin bike mount on the bars on a ride a few of us OBT members did on the weekend with ORE site
(see this link to the ride report
http://www.offroadexplorer.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1682&p=10705#p10705 )
and by the end of the two days ride the GPS was wobbling about as the plastic mountings were worn away by vibration. All up the mount has done about 1500km on the bike, so if you are using one of these mounts for the trip I doubt that it will last.
I had another RAM mount which I hadn’t used because of the bulky ball and clamp arrangement but ended up using the GPS holder and made my own mounting clamped to the bars which is a lot more solid.
I don’t know what sort of mounts the rest of you guys are using but I thought I would pass on this info just in case BEFORE someones GPS comes adrift.Mick
October 4, 2010 at 9:43 am #188359I have been using the same mount plastic mount for over 12 months now and probably have done a few thousand K’s, mine too is a bit loose and wobbles aroud a bit. I have a lanyard on mine that I tie off to the bar or the clutch cable, I came off the first time I used the GPS and it came loose from the mount but the lanyard saved me losing it. I bought an aluminium holder that is meant to clamp to the cross bar but the Veestrom doesn’t have a cross bar
October 4, 2010 at 9:52 am #188360Sounds like a good idea Nick.
