I spoke to Mal yesterday and he has gotten a Giant Loop Mohave in for a touch and feel session.. I plan on paying them a visit on Saturday morning, hopefully before I come to your place
What are the suggestions for water?
When does Boulder get back from the pre-run?

Quote::laugh:  I just realised this trip has a pommy and a sepo on it. Sounds like the making of a joke
TB:laugh: and both pommy and sepo on 400’s 😆 I can imagine how that joke will end up
Hmm… I guess we or shall I say I will be the jester of the trip for our fellow court…
I’ll provide the GPS cords for the location we will hold our effigy burning and sacrifice to Molech.. :woohoo: :woohoo:
July 22, 2010 at 10:55 am #184385I managed to get into Sutto’s today (Salina drove me  ) I ordered two rear tyres for the trip they are Michelin T63
And the front Pirelli Scorpion Rally Front Tyre
I looked at
that Mal got in for us to look at. At first I thought it was to small but when I started thinking about it and remembered we had a support vehicle I reckon they would be just fine and your sleeping bag could be ocky strapped across the top

July 22, 2010 at 11:02 am #184418whats your thoughts on these tyres for the 400’s?? and what milage are you expecting from front and rear??

(PS The sepo has sold the XR and his bling bling maybe well known DR will be on the ride)

Does this mean I won’t have the only DR650 on the ride and I’ll have someone to help carry spares……I mean , ride with.
I had a look at the Giant Loop bag at Suttos about a month ago and it’s the winner for me so far and selling for $395 there.

I think Krusty spoke with Mal and they were talking Bridgestone and ED78’s on the rear. I have run a ED78 on the 650 before

July 22, 2010 at 11:24 am #184420Will 2 complete sets of tyres be the go for this trip ,I have never got more than 1000km out of a set and still felt confident with them, but thats riding different terrain to this??
I was also talking to my local bike shop up here and she suggested a good gel seat addition for this trip, anyone else thinking about seat comfort, or is that just for the soft pommy !!!???

An Air Hawk is on the shopping list.
As for tyres, I’ve put a set of Pirelli MT21 front and back on the DR and hope to get some Ks on them to test them out.
July 22, 2010 at 11:32 am #184426The tyres you start with will be the ones you will need to finish with mate, we wont have the room to carry spare tyres on the ride (I only ordered 2 to use one elsewhere, cheaper for 2  )
A Set of Bajas on that sort of riding will do the mileage.
Note to all going
The guys that are going to need to do and oil change mid ride will need to send there oil and filter to an address we will provide at Tippoburra. You could freight a tyre with your oil and filer. By the way package you oil so the freight company cant see its oil  or they may refuse to take it being flammable and all

I was hoping that would be the answer TB , I really wasn’t planning on changing tyres . I think I have just got use to the north coast trails , and getting through a lot of rubber
And thanks to the DRZ no oil changes either :woohoo:

We ran ED78’s on the WR’s at Finke, we pre ran approx 150k’s, Down & back 450k’s then badbowie did Hattah on the same rear another 200k’s & they’ve hardly worn
They only come in one size 120/100-18 & they are a big heavy tyre.
Got a couple of new ED78’s left over if any one wants one at a good price.
Was also reading on ADV there are no Deserts available at the moment

I heard the same about deserts but I was at Sutto’s today when Mal rang Michelin (Gardners) about the T63’s and they still have deserts in stock
The only reason I am not running a desert is they dont come in 17’s
The ED78 I ran on the Old Bulls biggest weekend did 1500kms on the XR before I took it off its pretty rooted now. But its so different around here to the corner ride, still have it and yes they are a heavy tyre but it would do the whole ride. Good strong side wall for protection as well SB
