    Day 7 cont

I had us booked in for the seafood dinner, this is freshly caught that morning and was unbelievable

    66376ec4.jpg

We had beer and seafood until we could eat no more.

    Day 8

We left just after 7 a well oiled routine of packing up the tents and bikes.

We sooted out to the DC 3 plane wreck for a sticky

    aed8a00d.jpg

From there we headed south to fruit bat falls it started raining as we arrived in the car park

Jacko’s bag spent the day trying to fall off until he turned around and tied it down again at Archer river

    f29f158a.jpg

We continued south towards Bramwell station which was our planned destination but we found ourselves there at 11am and it was decided we could better spend our day doing something other than get plastered at the bar. We had a roadie spent an hour chatting the accommodation / bar manager and headed south with a new destination in mind being Musgrave station

So yeah a roadie had to do as they don’t do lunch.

On to Archer River and that cranky bastard as Nick had named the owner but honestly can you imagine the dickheads he deals with.
A feed there and fueled bikes we headed for Musgrave this the only time during the trip I had a go cranking the Tenere up because I was on my own as Nick was complaining he couldn’t hear on the blue tooth (ear plugs pressed in to far it turns out) I was in and fueled when Nick turned followed closely by Moose and than the loose link (Kram as he has been named). Moose said he had wanted to come and play but couldn’t bring himself to cover Nick in dust. The dust was thick as seen in places. We did do a fair amount of early morning traveling this trip which helped reduce the dust. I actaully ended up off the road at one stage misjudging a corner causeway :silly:
Kram had a drama fueling his bike fell over when he was hanging the bowser up which meant the fuel poured out as the cap wasn’t on filling his helmet up with fuel. We got it picked up and he washed the helmet in the shower that night, he said it wasn’t that bad the next day

    Day 9

We left early again, the plan was a 7.30 leave as always but we were mobile by 7.05 heading to Cooktown through Old Laura station and Lakefield national park

    386ae082.jpg

    3939ce5d.jpg

    We tried Croc spotting

    57134bf7.jpg

We then lost Kram, well he didn’t see us all on the side of the road and motored past us we decided how far could he go seeing as the would be no dust or wheel tracks, I mean really well that will be answered later

    White lily lagoon

    a25db7c5.jpg

    6be662c1.jpg

There was some excitement here when I croc started across the lagoon to suss us out, we left in a screaming hurry. Moose dropped his ear plugs and said F%#k them, Nick pushed his in so far we haven’t seen them since and I set a record for a Tenere over the quarter on dirt that felt like in was a low 8 seconds.
So once calmed down we said Kram will be around the corner waiting about 60 times for the next 65kms. We then said he will be at the Laura, Old Laura turn off because he will get there and nobody will be there he knows we do leave a corner so we continued to the turn off, and no Kram!
We waited and waited, checked tracks and waited. We decided he knew we were going to Cooktown so we headed off only to quickly find his tracks. We stopped two 4w4s and asked had they seen a lost screaming hippy and they had so we knew where he was headed and we continued.

    Day 10

So we punched early out of PKs after another big enough evening. Over the ferry and a run in with a croc

    8d7c1183.jpg

We got to Cairns for breakfast on the boardwalk area and hatched a plan to get to Magnetic Island ferry for the 4.05 ferry which was a tight squeeze. Less said on a public forum about the ride down the better but lets just say we made good time

About 40kms out of Townsville we stopped because it was safe then we figured, I rang Mick and asked him if he could ring the Island and see if it was raining and book us in at a backpackers. Also we NEEDED a separate room for Kram as Moose looked like he had been ridden hard and rolled up wet having shared a room with Kram and his shit loud snoring for the previous two nights.
Mick rang me back on the fly 20mins later all was organised, cheers mate you did good

When booked i and were told it was ladies night and ladies drink for free, now that sounded great for chicks but no good for us. Ol mate Bundy thats his name that runs the X base backpackers resort said no worries he could hook us up for free drinks. So to get in the spirt of the evening well I will let the pictures do the talking
