I have done a new route and converted it so it now fits on both my Garmin 62 and Zumo
I have also added a new suprise for the guys
Bike is almost finished, new chain, wheel bearings, tyres, front pads, coolant, changed the accessory wiring pickups, fitted another 3Br from Adventure Moto, new swing arm chain slider, tie wired the grips etc
Needs an oil and filter change, all the air filters serviced, and the new suspension bearings fitted next weekend. Can’t wait for this trip :woohoo: :woohoo:
Are we there yet

June 11, 2012 at 8:56 pm #223734Well the countdown is on to the Cape and as it’s been pissing down here all day so I thought I’d work on my DR 6fiddy’s bike prep.
I’ve been wrongly  accused of being unprepared in the past so I would welcome your imput.
What has been serviced or replaced so far:
New wheel bearings front and rear
New Cushdrive bearing
Oil and filter change
Air filter
New Brake pads front and rear
New throttle cables
Clutch cable
Valves adjusted, carby cleaned and bearings checked. Thanks Rod at Mud n TarI still have to get new tyres and an Ultra heavy duty tube for the front. What tyres would you guys recommend???
What else do you reckon needs looking at ?The bike has only done 10,000 klms and is pretty good nick?

June 11, 2012 at 9:11 pm #223900Chain and sprockets good for another 5,000, and should be fine isn’t an answer up there at Cape York
You have history with chain and sprocket failures mid ride, a smaller ride I may add  :pinch:

June 11, 2012 at 9:31 pm #223901Nick and I are carrying a rear tyre to Normaton to fit figuring that the two days hard off road running (1572kms) to Normaton will fairly eat up a rear tyre. We may carry it further to Musgrave or Bramwell stations depending. If we get any wet weather then we have fresher rubber to wrestle the big bitches in the mud with

Dunlop 606 rear, Michelin Baja rear, Dunlop 952 front (not legal but an awesome tyre) Dunlop 606 front, Dunlop Rally Raid 908 front ( expensive but the pick IMO due to better case etc) Michelin Desert Front, Michelin AC10 front

So are you starting out with a fresh rear as well?

My rear has done no more than 500km but it’s a 606 , great tyre for traction in a tight spot but only has good grip for 2500km and wears quick after that. I know some guys can get 10,000 km out of them but I’ve used 4 now and never got more than 4000 until they’re rooted. Must be the power of the Ten !!!! Not
Therefore to make the most of this trip I’m going to take a second tyre
Sound like the mighty DR will be ready to roll mate !!! What you calling this one ???

June 11, 2012 at 11:23 pm #223917So are you putting on another 606?
I used a 606 last ride and I think I’d be lucky to 4000 klms out if it. I’m a bit concerned about a 606 making the distance.
As for the name, I’m sure one will become apparent on the trip. Puffin Billy might be an option

Yeah mate , going a 606 again with a second on the back , I know the tyre well and am very confident with it. Also they a fairly cheap considering the trip we are doing
Bring it on Puffing Billy !!!
