I was looking at buying a cable repair kit to add to my spares for this ride but can’t get one locally.
Does anyone know where I can get one?

You can also get them from Sutto’s and I can pick it up and bring it up for you mate. Then you will have one on the rides Nick and I aren’t on

June 23, 2012 at 11:10 am #224749I haven’t had much of a chance to ride the Tenere lately as I’ve been enjoying my trail riding on the new Crf so I thought I should get in a few kms to get back in the big bike zone.
I put my eldest daughter on the back and we did a 100 km loop of some good dirt roads and I have to say it didn’t take long at all to get back into it and start enjoying the big girl againThe bike handled well and both my daughter and I had a ball !!
Now bring on the Cape ! :woohoo:

June 23, 2012 at 12:48 pm #224791Nice little run there Jacko getting back in the big girls saddle. Same for me today but not to far as I dont want to trash my tyres
I was sitting down last night having a Rum after I finished putting the head on Mick’s mates CFR450, I had it running and it hit me how massive the preparation for the this trip has been. I have basically rebuilt or replaced all the running gear on my trailer even for the trip to Mackay with both the Teneres on behind the mighty Hulix. (Oh and Dejay I fitted a new metal trailer plug!  ) I have some new gear for the trip including a new as yet unworn pair of Gaerne SG-10 Boots for my birthday early :woohoo: Replaced all the bearings in the rear suspension of the bike including all wheel bearings, cush drive rubbers, chain and front sprocket, new tyres including a 908 Rally Raid front I have been looking forward to running to see if all the hype is right regarding the tyre.
The route started out pretty simple months ago, I have been to the Cape before in 2004 with Ace on a trip I pretty well organised so that was a big help. I got some good feedback from my uncle and some real good help from Chicken as he is from up that way and did his apprenticeship in Weipa. I have planning this for months all the accommodation, travel permits, ferry schedules, places to see, places to go, fuel stops, leg lengths, mine tour, all upon what I wanted to see and where I went in 2004 when I last did the cape. (it all normally goes out the window the first day  )
Researching fuel stops and the route between Mackay and Normanton has been probably the hardest part because not many people try to go across country without main routes like I have been trying to do. The other piece of the route that has been a head case is between the Mitchell River and Dixie Station, after speaking with Musgrave Station on Wednesday I am unsure if we will even use that track now given that it last week took 3 days for a small group to get through (the late finish to the wet season is the reason the track is very badly chopped and rutted I am told) I had allowed 1 day for the section on advice months ago. The 3 days hard work/riding isn’t the issue it’s that if we spend 3 days there we lose time on the back end of the trip. To go around maybe as bad and stretches our fuel range for the leg to 700kms! I reckon we will we do it, I certainly plan on checking it right out before we go the B route. Given that all 4 of us had to carry a bladder for the original planned leg of 560kms, and now the length may blow out (B route) I have arranged to borrow two extra fuel bladders for the group from Boulder (cheers mate) I sent Moose my Giant Basin to put on his bike and he is borrowing Dejay’s bladder. Kram is using a 10 litre jerry can as well while Jacko and I have our 12 litre bladders from last years Camerons, Birdsville, Big Red trip.Tyres had been discussed with two different ideas being tried on the ride. Moose and Kram have both choose Mitas E09s given that they wear well and will do the 4500kms easily but maybe not being the grippiest (word?) tyre. Nick and I are leaving Mackay with Dunlop 606s that aren’t new but will easily do the 1500kms to Normanton. At Normanton we will fit new 606s that I purchased for us in Cairns through Team Moto (thanks to Brian at Team Moto Yamaha Blacktown for his help in providing a contact and the first phone call to secure us an awesome price) The tyres I have had freighted by a bus company to the caravan park in Normanton.
The police stations in Normanton, Coen and the stations at Musgrave, Bramwell have been super helpful regarding track closures, track conditions, permits and alcohol restrictions and are only a phone call away.Today I am taking the Tenere for a spin and will then give it a final oil change, finish packing my bags and then its just the wait and the wait is the worst part
