Noticed on my ride today (still buzzin’ from it) that the hose from the bottom of the carbie float bowl pretty much “ran” continually while the bike was stationary and engine not running with fuel tap “ON”.

When the motor was running it still pumps out some fuel, but less of course, a few rev’s and even less …. “Normal” for a standard jetted 300 Berg or KTM? Seems a waste of fuel over a few hours or days ride.

As you can tell I’m no mechanic … got some learnin’ to do :)

EDIT: dammit! I forgot to change the section my post was in again! Sorry Admin.

Sounds like the float is stuck, probably from sitting around for too long before the first ride.

Give the bowl a tap with screwdriver or some other knocking implement that won’t cause too much damage and see if that fixes it.

The old gave it a wack and see what happens trick, good for so many mechanical issues :D

I had that problem with my DRZ a few times when I had been working away for a couple of months at a time. Mine even stopped running but the fuel kept on pouring out onto the ground. A few taps and away it went again.

Drain the bowl while your at it Razzle.

Could be one of a couple of things causing your problem.
    1) as LC said a sticking float needle. (A tap on the side of the carb may fix it.)
    2) a bit of shyte stuck in the needle and seat.
    3) float level set too high allowing the fuel to keep running into the float bowl. (me thinks this will be the problem) You will need to get the correct measurement and adjust the tab that operates the needle.

If you are going to adjust your float level, you will need to bend the tab that is connected to the needle upwards towards the needle, just a fraction 1-2 mm max. This will make the floats push the needle closed earlier, allowing less fuel to flow into the bowl.

Thanks … I’ll give it the good ol’ “tap” first, then maybe put up with it till I change the jetting to the JD Kit

This is most likely the cause, the KTM/Bergs have been known to have the floats adjusted too high from the factory. It’s easy to adjust.

OK, cool. I’ll look at fixing it as soon as I get back from OS before the next ride.

May as well chuck in the JD Kit at the same time … looks like I need to pull quite a few things off just to get good access to the carbie anyway!

That should not have to be the case. Moto is an expert at this part, he will have all the pointers you need.
