as a guide Husky i just bought a 8×4 foot 2mm thick sheet of aluminium for $120.

so if you go to a metal work shop that uses alum. with the diameter of the disc(s) you want they’d probably only charge a couple of $$ for the alum. and a few $$ for labour.

i’d offer to cut some for any that would want some but ATM i only have a jig saw and the finished product is not that flash

however if someone does want some cut i can get a price from a local shop to plasma cut some.. i’d prob. recommend 3-4mm over 2mm though just to be on the safe side, i feel the 2mm stuff may tend to bend too easily.

but if someone can have a look at the ones they have and let me know thickness and are both sides the same diameter??

I have seen two DR gear sticks crack the left case and one brake pedal the right side. They are a super necessary piece of DR kit I reckon and as stated the tour companies fit them and as they do they must be needed. Having seen those poor Cape York hire DR’s I can tell you they get nothing until its rooted

XY I could be wrong as I normally am  but I reckon the ones people purchase would only be two mill thick mate

Cape York tours use 3 mm. and Sikaflex to hold them on.

I have done some more reading on this and found that apparently the DRZ400’s gear shift has a bit of a hook on the inside of it, filing this off seems to do wonders in helping to preserve th ecase on that side.. Brake lever side.. No Idea

Silicone adhesive was recommended when I did mine so if for any reason they need to be removed an old butter knife would easily cut the silicone off. I have done over 8000km with mine on and they haven’t budged!

+1 I have 12500ks and they have’nt moved and have taken some love over the years!! Good cheap insurance IMO. :)
