R30 was/is a castor based oil, many of todays syntehetics have used this as a base compound so I’ve been told, yes it smells great, nostalgia +++, no it’s not that great in Powervalved motors (gummy stuff), not good if stored in pre-mix for more than a week or two but yes i too have used it sucessfully in direct oiler smokers (RG250 Gamma, RG500 square four, RZ350R, RZ500/640 V4) with great success but as TB has said technology has marched on and I now myself reccommend Mobil syntehetic 2 stroke oil, basically they’re all good now, and for what its worth current silkolene top line smoker oil still smells like R30 (Castor based), but is a bit too OTT $$$ for everyday riding if you ask me.

I usually fill up my ute at a Woolworth’s garage, while im there I buy REVTEC semi-synthetic 2 stroke oil for about $10 a litre, with the docket you get 8c a litre off your fuel,so for all intensive purposes im usually paying about $5 for the oil.Have been running revtec for years and it has never let me down. The Mobil synthetic has been used occasionally as well, good stuff.

ran r30 once in the pw50 and 80, left it in there after the ride, next time was a nightmare until I drained the fuel and the carb and filled it with fresh 2-stroke. Yes it does smell sweet but for the effort I’ll stick with the standard stuff.

    Cheers

Mick dont use it in the auto oiler if its connected, you have to mix it yourself, I used to use it when I raced karts, had to drain what you didnt use as it doesnt store well and causes problems in high performance engines when reused, so used to drain and use in the mower and whipper snipper :woohoo:

I remember going to watch Jason Crump at my local speedway in the UK and smelling the awesome smell. Sadly, I think that if you have a new, modern engined bike then you’d be better off using the latest stuff developed for it.

I know a few peanuts you could squeeze on Mr Menace, not sure if I’d want their oils tho’
