I have a mate that lives here in Wauchope who is very handy on the tools whether it be mechanicing or fabricating,he has a gift. He has made some awesome Harley Davidson choppers complete with suicide shifts etc.
The other day I got a phone call from him asking if I had a spare 18″ rear knobbie he could have for his next project. Knowing he isn’t really into dirt bikes, this request got my interest, so I was happy to go round his place to drop the tyre off and see what crazy shit he was up to.
Imagine my surprise when I saw the makings of one of these in the middle of the workshop floor!!!!
One of these contraptions are known as a Uni-Moto and they are a popular motorcycling event in the US and Europe where they hold drag racing competitions for them.
Apparently once they drop the clutch nothing forward of the rear axle can touch the ground till after the finish line.
He has cut the front of a 1982 Honda VT250 and replaced the front end with skids and is now in the process of building the wheelie bars for the back. When he gets closer to it being finished I will take some pics.
I so want to be there to watch him try and ride it for the first time!!!
He is a member of the American Motorcycle club and they are going to hold a drag racing day for these contraptions around Easter.Even after I emailed him a link to this video he is still keen to ride it!! Crazy stuff!!

January 27, 2010 at 7:20 pm #169713Well it is kinda starting to take shape. You can actually see the theory behind it. I am struggling to see the purpose though.
January 27, 2010 at 7:40 pm #169717I like his design of the wheelie bars.
This looks like a really fun sport, to watch
January 27, 2010 at 8:32 pm #169718Well some interesting things from all this for me are
1/ Why get rid of a perfectly good front wheel
2/ Rat, you want in? After all this work the guy would want someone that will turn up not just say they will Besides Rat if the thing bites in and flips forward you don’t need anymore brain damage
3/ And the mystery friend shouldnt be to hard to track down now our news reporter (who should know better  ) has their car rego clearly in the photo
January 27, 2010 at 8:49 pm #169719great engineering but its doomed from the outset
January 27, 2010 at 8:56 pm #169720Geez!!!
I was just watching some more of those crazy suckers on youtube.
They seem to know how to get a bike engine to go fast and make heaps of noise but thier engineering and understanding of physics is lacking a little.
The bike is looking like it’s gonna hurt someone Mick. Good luck to your mate. Make sure you post some video when it’s up and running.
