My mate Patto from Lithgow should start a tour group business, fair dinkum! You will know him from the January caption competition – yep, that’s the man! Axel, Grant and I represented the Dubbo area and there were about 7-8 of Patto’s mates tagging along as well. The plan was simple: Ride up the drift, ride around till lunchtime, head over to the Clarence motocross track for lunch, then ride till we run out of fuel! So we did!

We met up at the Drift at 9:30 and headed up into the remarkably wet forest. The locals were surprised it was so wet, apparently Lithgow didn’t get a lot of rain, but it must have pissed down on the top of the hill! Axel must have been shaking his head, as he was still using his crappy old Carlsbad rear tyre. I think he is trying to make a slick – he’s almost there too!:laughing-

We headed down Patto’s warm-up loop with a couple of greasy greasy hills, complete with angled logs, loose rocks and photo opportunities!

Ready to go. Sorry about my crappy (bloody terrible) photos. My camera died and I had to use the phone.:(

Ordinarily I would bin this pic as it is so bad, but here is someone on a WR (I think!)

Here’s Axel cruising up one of the greasy greasy hills. The magic faraway camera-phone strikes again!

Waiting at the top for stragglers:

At the top of a very greasy section, Axel thought his chain was too tight, so he quickly adjusted it.

Dave’s white WR was a thing of beauty… and then he rode it!

This is actually not too bad of a pic…

The XR’s mixed it with the rest, although one was sounding pretty tappety.

One slippery sucker of a hill had a log at about 45° to the track which caught a few out. Axel nominated himself as pusher for a few, but left patto to do a bit of the work!

Those of us who had made it up had a breather
    0222091034-00.jpg

So we stuck to the plan, and kept riding until the worms started to bite. “Lunchtime” was the call!

Suddenly the pace picked up and we were headed to Clarence… only to have all the locals bar patto bail out on us!!

Anyway, the hard-core riders, Patto, Axel, Grant and I, headed to the Clarence motocross track only to be greeted with a sign saying $5 to enter! F’N Bullsh1t sunshine! So we arranged with the gatekeeepers to let Patto in to buy us lunch and head back out.

In the meantime, Axel noticed his rear brake pads were shagged, with a capital S, which I guess would be Shagged!

Note to KTM riders, Metal Gear brand pads are rubbish!

So we had a feed, dry steak sandwiches and a soft drink ($6!!!!???) and headed back to the trails.

I have no idea where we went, Axel seemed to have a fair idea, and patto I am sure knew every minute where we were and where we were going! I managed to beach the WR in a couple of trenches and totally stuff myself getting it out! Thankfully, Patto choose this point to go onto reserve, so we started to head back.

There were a few minor incidents, mostly involving patto trying to have a refreshing dip in a creek. Axel laid the KTM over early in the day but was rockin’ in the afternoon once he got that out of his system! We headed back by easy fire trails and open single track and ended up back at the Drift at 3:30.

It was a great ride. I must apologise for the very ordinary photos. New camera time I suppose.

Thanks to Patto (again) for a fantastic ride (again). The only thing I missed out on was towing Patto out of there! Thanks to Axel and Grant for inviting me along. I like riding with you blokes because you keep an eye out for the slower riders and you set a cracking pace! I reckon I learn a fair bit riding behind you!

    Cheers!:grinning-

Well first you have to be in the same state as me TB!

I’ll give you a shout next time, but I was only emailed about it on Friday morning so it was pretty short notice for me. I was running around yesterday like a blue-arsed fly trying to get things done so that I could go! In the end I didn’t quite get everything done, so I’m now low on brownie points!

Cheers mate! Its a good way to remember a ride I reckon. Disappointing about my camera, but I guess it had just had enough after 5 years and several thousand photos!
