May 10, 2009 at 10:44 am #133419Tiny and me got to Clarence about 7am, bit of a chill in the air but the sun was shinning and it looked like it was going to be a great day. We were there to try and link up some of the single tracks to make the run out to Wolgan gap a bit more interesting.
We parked only a few K’s from the zig zag and dropped into some single track staight away. This was a nice easy flowing track that brought us out at the MX track. From here we followed the well used track around the back of the MX track and past the old quarry, across the main trail and onto another single track. This track took us up a few short sharp hills and twisted though the gully until we popped out at the pine forest camping ground.
We went up around the back of the pine forest and followed a trail which came back to the pine forest and through a short single track.
We desided to head out towards the lost city to explore a few of the side tracks that come of this trail. Found a sweet trail that wound though the bush up some more short sharp hills and came back out at the start of the Lost City trail.
From here we headed out along the black fellows hands trail to explore the side tracks out towards the end of the trail. On the run down into Wolgan Gap Tiny got a flat front which we changed down in the gap.
We went across the Wolgan valley road and before we headed up the hill towards the lookouts we turned off down another great single track which took us along the bottom of the mountain. This track came out onto a fail trail that seems to run parallel with the ridge trail that goes to the lookout. Any one who did the hillend ride would know the ridge trail, I got no idea what it’s called.
Anyway a few k’s along this trail and we spotted a massive hill climb that went straight up the ridge. Two goes at it seen me only making it about 3/4 the way up. Tiny motored up first go on the Husky only to find it was a dead end .
We followed the fire trail futher up the gully before we found a trail which headed up the ridge. This trail started as a twin track and slowy became a single trail that would its way up the ridge, though some rock cutting and finally came out at the top ridge trail near the lookout, great track. This would make a good detore on the ride to Capperty.
We turned and headed back towards the Zig Zag, back up through Wolgan Gap. A few k’s from Wolgan Gap we dropped of onto a twin track. Along here we found a great single track which went up and down though gullies, over rocks and logs and finally cam back to a sharp rocky down hill which came in the back of wolgan gap. This track was great fun and a much better alternate route into wolgan gap.
Back up the Blackfellows hands trail and found a few more good single track before we hit the mother load. Turned onto a single track that just went forever. This track was like nothing ive riding at Clarence, red loamy dirt the any tyre would hook up on. It wound back and forth though tight trees with all the corners having small berms on them. This trail went and went and went. Up down, twisted, turned. I was having a ball, overshooting corners everywhere and blasting from corner to corner. This is easily the best single track ive ever riden at calrence if not the best ever. Didn’t measure it but must of been 15km long. It was also noted by Tiny and me how this trail seemed to have no rock, this is very unusual for the area. We finally came back out on the Blackfellows hands trail not far from the pine forrest. It was starting to rain so we headed back to the car.
Well our gaol was to make this a more interesting trip and we far exceded our expectations. Found some awsome trails, can’t wait to get back and ride them again.

May 10, 2009 at 11:51 am #133438Great report guys. You found some of the good singles around Blackfellas Hands.
There is a really good single that comes out at the back of Invincible coal mine.
Have you done any on the right side of BFH as you head back to the pines camping area? I was talking to a guy the other day and told sort of where to find some hidden singles.
So after caves to caves we’ll have to get together and go for a look.I’m riding on Tuesday so I might go there and have a quick look.
It’s fun to go on tour looking for new tracks
