I had already conceeded to your experience and wisdom with my first line. It was your witty () comment at the end that attracted my reply (as you well know);)

Writing ‘gone fishin’ actually prevents a big nasty comeback (which it has done in this case) :)

Okay then, so the concensus is from our resident Diesel mechanic not to use diesel as it will leave your filter oily on the account of the lubricants it has in it.

The next question is: If you did use diesel oil to clean your filter and it was left oily can you just slap it straight in the bike and save the cost of a tin of no toil? :P

Well diesel cleans up easier than air filter oil so it would still do the job if you were cleaning the filter in it then washing in detergent of some sort before re-oiling with filter oil I would think. Just not as nice to work with as kero. Correct TB?

I used No Toil last weekend and it worked a treat. Obviously only cleans off it’s own oil but got my filter spotless without the stink or mess.

Do you boys steer clear of it for performance reasons or do you just love sucking vapours?

Nah I think you would find the kero is so much better because the oily residue from the diesel will make hard work for the detergent wheres the kero doesnt have that oily residue.

have any of you blokes tried the rockoil – water washable filter oil.

dont abuse me for asking …

we dont get much rain/wet down here to wash it off….not for a while anyway.
