Just a little tip folks! When cleaning an air filter, particularly in petrol, don’t have your mobile phone in your shirt pocket. I tried an experiment mythbusters style on Sunday that involved my phone, a basin of petrol and gravity!

Result? Phone nil, gravity one, petrol three!

Sim survived as did the micro SD card, but the phone is GOOOOOONE!

Hey ECK’S…Not sure how the phoe is assembled but you could try to pull it apart and wash it with Metho..dry it properly ( hot air/dryer) and reassemble it..just may fire up again…just a thought from a similar experience using a top end theater remote.

Back on topic, the original YouTube video in post 1 doesn’t seem to work – just a white box on my PC.

Here’s a YouTube video I just found. What do you guys reckon – is this the way to go?

Thanks to the tips I got from OBT I have turned this job from being a hassle into one that is almost enjoyable. Nowhere near as much fun as getting it dirty but not the nightmare it was.

I am using No Toil so it is not as messy and the lettuce spinner tip is a ripper. They are $8 at big W and leave the filter almost dry straight up which saves a lot of time drying. This is handing during the wet weather we are having right now.

The next tip was to put the filter in a large sandwich, zip lock, bag and add the filter oil to that. It not only acts like a glove for your hands but when you massage the oil through the filter it gives good even coverage and much less waste.

    Cheers OBT

I’ve just gone back to using 2T oil as my filter medium, I have been using Motul and it is inconsistant in being consistant, with the 2T I can get an good easy permeation through the whole filter.

    everything old maybe new again.
