    Hi

Can you put my mind at ease?

Today i did my first every clutch change. One of the boys was complaining that the clutch was slipping. With one of the other bikes in at the mechanics for significant gear box repairs, i thought about the $$$$$ being spent and decided it was time to have a go myself.

Anyway got some know how off the net and took my instructions to the garage with son in tow. All went fine son was pulling the plates out and we got to the second last fibre plate and my son advises that it was broken. Thats okay i thought, pass me the broken pieces and i begun to lay them out on the ground to ensure we got out a full plate! As always when i attempt this sort of stuff, it screws up and a large segment of the plate is missing?

    Where has it gone….??

There was plenty of metal fillings in the gear box oil (it is a 2 stroke) but nothing big. I hope the missing bit has been ground up?

Any suggestions on what actions i should consider? Other than the slipping clutch he tells me it was riding fine.

    Thanks

Nice….. It will be paste in the gear box oil now. Where did the metal come from though?

    Hi Jimmy

Thanks for the response. I had assumed that is what would have happened. I could not see how the plate pieces could have exited the basket without being crushed.

The magnetic bolt had very little filings collected on it. I am hoping things will okay!

Gyday Unit, I agree with Jimmy turned to past for sure. Magnetic bolt would not work as the filings are most probably Aluminium. I would clean out the casing as best you can, give it a flush with some cheap oil (Normal Car engine oil will do,run it till it heats up) then drop that and replace with some good gearbox oil.

Ollie thanks for the backup of Jimmy’s post. The young bloke took the rm125 for a spin today. Was really happy with the new clutch. Constantly asked him how it was going and whether he could detect any issues. No issues reported. (great expectations really, they usually just ride them to they drop, and then tell you)

We intend to drop the oil to clean it out after the next few rides, we will continue this routine until the clutch plate milkshake disappears.

    Thanks
