Does anyone know if these are the same as the ones that are used in the soda stream makers, a lot cheaper if the are.
Cheers

Chris.Different Chris I think. The ones for Soda stream are CO2 and the ones for bike tyres are compressed air I think.

AnonymousThe bike one’s I’ve seen are CO2 as well. I don’t see any reason why you can’t use Soda stream ones if the fitting is the same
March 2, 2009 at 1:24 am #124628The ones I had were CO2 as well, but I thought they were different to the old soda stream things. The bike ones were larger and had a thread on the end. I’m not sure that the soft drink ones did.
I don’t use them anymore because the little o ring in the adaptor perishes and once you try to use the cylinder all the gas ascapes past it and not into the tube as expected. It’s manual pumps for me now I’m afraid.

AnonymousEagle used one at the weekend and worked pretty well in the absence of a decent pump
March 2, 2009 at 1:49 am #124632I used to use them, sourced them from Ballards, different to 99% of soda bottle cylinders, but I have gone to a pump or better still mousse tubes, not pumps, bottles, levers, tubes, patches or hassles

March 2, 2009 at 4:51 am #124633Use a pump ya wuss!! They actually have some pretty good ones now with double action. Best to spend a little bit more and get a good one than a cheapy.
March 2, 2009 at 5:38 am #124639I spent $25 on a pushbike pump and people who have used it comment how well it works.. It’s not very big ,but better than those mini pumps that take a thousand pumps to inflate a tyre.. I suppose it’s half the size of a full length pump..
March 2, 2009 at 6:21 am #124620Yes,
I used on yeaterday on the Newy Ride, mine is a double action pump with the insert for a Co2 canister. There are different sizes of canister available, mine is the smaller one, 16gram without a thread, SAME AS SODA STREAM (I think??), others have threads & larger diameter,,,,,
Worked pretty well for me, only did the tyre once and was empty though,,,,,,

Mine Mousse would be two + old, read the explanation that Crash put in the tyres for the 4 day below

Should last over 12 months or so, depending upon how much you ride. It will then seem to be getting softer. You then buy your second one. After another year or so of flat free riding, the second one will seem to get flatter. It is at this point, you start to get a further benefit by being able to cut a segment from your first one. You use this to pack out your second one! So basically, the purchase of x2 tubes over a couple of years should get you well over 3 years of flat free riding.
CrashSo three years plus, no dented rims, whats the cost of new rims, no trail side stops, no tubes, no carrying all the stuff you have to carry
March 2, 2009 at 8:16 am #124659a fair point my comrade. are they harder to change tyres with… with all the lube and stuff…..
im seriously considering it cause im shit (and really slow) at fixing punctures:woohoo:
thanks TB.

March 2, 2009 at 8:19 am #124621Good heavy duty tube and a pump!! “Toughen up”,a puncture gives you time to stop and smell the roses!! And they dont happen that often if your running heavy tubes and the right tyre pressures.
